IMO, market share isn't indicative of quality. You can get good results with Canon, Sony, Nikon, Pentax, Olympus, Fuji, etc. Get what YOU like, not what other people like.

I'll still keep my Nikons. I'm not one to follow the pack. Hell, in the 80s when Nikon was king I owned Canon. :)

I upgraded my D7000 to a D7200 and it was well worth it. I shoot a lot of stuff in low light like wildlife, live music and astrophotography, often with higher ISO, and the noise is considerably lower on the D7200. It is also sharper.

I haven't used the Nikon, but I have a D750 and use the Tamron G2. I am impressed with it. Very sharp, solid construction, weather sealed, good in every way IMO.

I love the Kodak brand and it breaks my heart as well. It was really sad when they lost the naming rights to the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. I can only assume that errors in management's judgement led to their downfall. I sincerely hope that this gives them a new lease on life and I wish them every success. Kodak, the name we grew up with will hopefully live on!

They also had to shut down the Kodak Hula Show in Waikiki that had been running for free since 1937. That was sad.

Trust me. I've replaced more shutters on these than I care to count. You should buy lottery tickets.

I've had a D7000 for 5 years. It has 72,000 clicks without a problem. You should never buy a lottery ticket.

The service department isn't the problem. They're great. It's the corporate management that could prove to be its downfall.

I was just replying to the person that said they are generally unpleasant to deal with. My experience has been the opposite.

Nikon Inc. has been in a steady decline for the last 6 or 7 years. Their market share in the U.S has dropped by over 30%, They've closed down all of their authorized service centers, they no longer sell parts for repairs, they have "built in" design flaws they refuse to acknowledge and are generally unpleasant to deal with anymore.

I started out as a Nikon shooter way back when because they had a proven, quality product with great support anywhere. Then I got into repairs and found out Canon was more innovative and actually a better made product.

The bottom line is I'm surprised Nikon is still in business. At one point, they almost got out of the camera business altogether and switch to cosmetics. I'm glad the board voted that one down. If they continue to follow the path they have started for themselves, the next step will be to close down their factory service centers and everything will need to go to Japan for repair.

I've had to get repairs twice in the last year, one from a fall that damaged my D750 and once a 300mm PF under warranty stopped auto-focusing. In both cases I have nothing but praise for Nikon service. They were polite, fast and did a fantastic job. I'm very happy with them.

If you want to make enemies, say something true about Nikon...

You've offered no actual evidence that what you said about Nikon is true. If you want to make enemies MAKE UP stuff about Nikon without any proof whatsoever.

Nikon TCs have a tab that sticks out on the lens mount, so they only work on lenses with a corresponding space for the tab. I'm not sure if that was true in the 70s, but it's something to consider.

I have the 500G version and it is great for travel. Small, light, tough. I just got back from Kauai and between it, my laptop and the SD cards I had three copies of everything. Since I had a hard drive crash last year (spinning disk - crashed head) and it cost me a small fortune to recover the photos on it I love SSDs (and having multiple backups). No heads to crash!

I have the 300mm PF, and my wife has the 200-500mm. I use both, borrowing hers when the 300mm is not enough. But I often use the 300mm with a 1.4x teleconverter with good results.
