I bought a Nippon Kogaku bellows in EX condition from KEH for under $50 a few months ago. Obviously it was from the film era and there is one very MAJOR problem. A digital Nikon DSLR will NOT mount directly because of the grip molded into the right side of the camera body. My solution was to mount a 12mm auto extension tube to my D300 to get the clearance to mount it to the bellows. Can't say if this is an issue with Nikon bellows for film cameras.

I dropped my Sony RX10 on a tile floor (aagh!). It still works but makes a loud grinding sound whenever the lens opens or retracts and when I turn it off. Sometimes it freezes and I get a message saying “turn camera off and on.” Then it works fine. My question is should I get it repaired or keep using it hoping it doesn’t die on me during a great photo opportunity? Does anyone know a good camera repair place that is reasonably priced?

KEH has one in EX condition for $599.

A new documentary called, "My Octopus Teacher", is a real sensation. Beautiful videography through out and if you pause the video great photography, too. I guaranty you will learn something about octopus vulgaris.

As you say, Americans won't/can't do such work. The right wing political BS claims the brown people who will do the picking/hoeing/hard work are invaders. but now they are essential workers who MUST risk their health and safety. I'm not one for much religion but the one thing that stuck with me from my time in church as a kid was, "Love thy neighbor as thy self" (Mark 12:31). It's a damn shame that fear and hatred will get some politicians more votes than love and peace ever will. If there is a reckoning I wouldn't want to be in their shoes when the time comes.

I see red overtones in the gray and the "green" is definitely turquoise.

To all of you who offered recommendations, thank you. The Canon G series, a couple of Lumix models and of course the earlier models of the Sony RX100 (mk 2 and 3) fit my needs; really leaning towards the Sony. I have nine months to find one. I'll report back when I have some pictures to show.
In the mean time here's a link to some video I shot from my trike. In case you're wondering how the camera was "flown", I remodeled a two liter Coke bottle by cutting out the base and adding a couple of holes on what becomes the bottom to create a lifting surface from the top half of the bottle. I used a windshield wiper motor and a spool to fit that I made on my lathe. With a small 12V battery and a SPDT switch I can run the camera out as I want to get it into position and bring it back in for landing I wasn't able to get the Dutch roll characteristics out of it as the video shows. Still working on that.

Thinking outside of the box, GoPro Hero cams are very popular with uktra light flyers and mountain bikers . Take a look on Amazon, etc.

Roger, I already have two action cams, one for each wingtip and I'll have a third for the end of the keel tube before next summer. They're great but there is no way I can change either their field of view or even turn them off or on once I'm off the ground. I start them up before take off and they run until the chip is full or the battery is dead which ever comes first. I want a camera I can pull out as needed, point where I want and get the image I want.

I'll be in Washington state so, yeah, probably, but that's not the subject I'll be looking for.

You spent $1800 on gas, how much did you spend on oil? As my friend, a former Jeep owner, once told me Jeep is the Greek word for sieve. :-}

I need a small pocket camera to carry in my harness when I'm flying. I have a Nikon Coolpix S8100 which is just about the perfect size but I'd like to have something with a 1" sensor. My budget is about $200 for a used one. I don't want to have separate lenses, just something I can take one hand off the control bar, turn it on and start taking pictures. The subject matter will be 20 to 30 feet away. I really like the looks of the Coolpix A, especially it's aps-c sensor. I've only seen one at KEH at the top of my budget. All suggestions appreciated. One other requirement, it has to be absolutely silent in operation.

DO NOT DO THIS!!!!
When it says "No user serviceable parts inside" heed the warning. A friend of mine didn't and when he accidentally touched the terminals of the capacitor inside he was thrown across his two bay garage. Autopsy a month later, after he died from a massive heart attack, showed extreme damage to his heart from the shock.

I bought a Nikon D300 in EX+ condition for $138 when KEH was offering a 10% discount for EX and EX+ rated cameras late last year. An excellent camera that will give me years of service yet. Later on I bought an older 35-105 mm lens with macro capability for $43. The lens has autofocus for normal shooting but the macro capability is all manual focus. For $181 I cannot find anything that touches that combination of lens and camera. Good luck in your search, bargains are out there.

PS I uploaded the latest firmware and it allows up to 32GB cards so I don't have to screw around looking for old cards. I can just get them from Amazon.

Even without a fire the Central Valley is so smoggy it's nearly impossible to see either the Coast Range or the Sierras from Sacramento. I grew up there in the 50's and 60's when you could. Last time I was there in 2006 I was driving on I-5 going to Chico and couldn't spot Sutter's Lookout as I drove by it. What a shame.
