Greetings all,

I have considered purchasing a tilt shift lens for architecture, and skyline shoots. I haven't done because I wasn't sure of it's uses outside of architecture, and pano's. I primarily enjoy nature/wildlife, macro, and cityscapes. Wondering any of you use the tilt shift in your areas of photography... and your thoughts on the lens? It seems to be a specialty lens.

Thanks in advance

I just saw the post by Howard5252... I have a mixture of EN-EL15 batteries purchased since my migration up from the D7000. I didn't check to see if I was using the "E" or "F" series.

Yes... I've had my D850 for about 3 weeks or so. The D810 battery functions with not problems. If you plan on using the battery grip for the 9 fps... the larger battery that fits the D4s, and D5 will be the one to go with.

You will not go wrong with either Nikon or Canon... both offer plenty of lens selections. I personally shoot with Nikon bodies, but also use Fuji for mirrorless street photography, portraits, and nature and wildlife. Either body will serve you well in your interest areas, however both Canon and Nikon offer more professional quality lenses if you choose to grow your arsenal, and expand your shooting to sports, and wildlife. Many photographers today are switching, or including mirrorless bodies.

For portraits, and nature you will not need high end bodies... purchase according to your budget.

Hope this helps

Great photo opportunities await you. It looks like you've received some good advice. I have visited the smokies once or twice a year for the past several years. I fell in love with a mountaintop location at the foothills of the Smokies park entrance with great views of the mountain, and away from the business of the Gatlinburg traffic.

http://www.gatlinburgsummit.com

They offer studio, 2, 3, and 4 bedroom apartments each having a full kitchen. Indoor and outdoor swimming pool, and the units are very reasonable. You will have to drive down the mountain to tour Gatlinburg, and the Smokies. If you visit Magee Valley you will be at the foothills of Cataloochee State Park where you are guaranteed images of the ElK early morning, and late afternoons. On your way to Magee Valley there's a couple of white water rafting stops where you can make your way down to the waters edge for some nice action shots.

At traffic light #8 in Gatlinburg, follow the road to the Roaring Fork Motor trail... it's a drive through similar to Cades Cove. The big attractions is the fast moving stream with provides plenty of waterfalls along the trail.

Happy Hunting

Big thanks to all... this helps me out. When I googled the park it did appear like a Cades Cove type drive thru which is also hit or miss. We are currently in Chicago due to arrive in St. Louis Wednesday. I appreciate all the responses and the options.

Greetings to all,

I have the opportunity to take a group of high school students on a trip to St. Louis this coming week. During our recent visits in St. Louis the ride to the top of the arch has been one of the more memorable experiences for the students. I discovered online that it's closed until late April due work being done on the elevator. I did a search for other locations around St. Louis and discovered Lone Elk Park which has both elk and bison. I was wondering if anyone had visited the park, if so how visible are the animals this time of year?

We will be visiting the zoo, and the botanical gardens, I'm open to any other suggestions for photo ops in and around the St. Louis area.

Thanks

Thanks for the quick response. I followed your instructions and it appears that at some point I subscribed, but for the life of me I don't remember doing it.

Possibly I received a post last year at the introduction of the new site and subscribed without following up. In any event I would like to re-introduce myself. I have been shooting nature, wildlife, cityscapes, along with a limited amount of event photography for quite a few years now. I have the pleasure of teaching a high school photography class where I have promised "Street Photography" to be included on our photo excursions.

Because of the fact that I didn't have a lot of experience myself I hesitated in this area. I purchased a Fuji pro 1 when it was introduced for the sole purpose of street photography but it gathered dust on the shelf until May 2016 when I dusted it off and hit the streets. I now have an excitement about wandering the streets for the unexpected. I will post a few captures for critique soon.

I do have a couple of questions:

1. Except for the shear joy of shooting... how can street photography images be used without getting model releases from businesses, and people?
2. I have been looking at the Fuji Xt2... wondering if anyone that uses this body could provide me some insight in the primary difference between it and the Xpro1. I always had frustrations with the focusing system on the Xpro1 which seemed so different from my Nikon bodies. I often lost shots due to my fumbling with the camera. I was told that the Xt2 is more similar to the functions of a DSLR... is this true?

Thanks in advance

Greeting Adaflo,

Thanks for the info on Street Photography section. I have been a member hogger for some years but have not been aware of all the sections, or how to become members of sections on interest.

I have a renewed interest in street photography. I would like to joint the group of 500 or so to learn more about street photography, and how to use it. Please inform me on how to become a member of your section.

Thanks

Many thanks for all the suggestions. I'm more of an environmental, wildlife and nature photographer. As many of you know very often we settle for what's available. When I'm on these short business trips, night shooting allows me more time. I am a birder but no time for stalking, this is why I thought of the zoo. I have enjoyed viewing everyone else's image post, but I've never uploaded any myself. Perhaps I'll do that upon return and get some feed back from all of you.

Thanks again

Greetings fellow Hogs,

I have the opportunity to spend 3 days in Tampa Bay this week. I love shooting night skylines... I am looking for any photo suggestions from those who know. I will try to sneak out for one morning... perhaps a whole day, otherwise I will have the early morning, and late nights available. I did look at some images for the zoo send my new D500 through the paces, but thought I'd look for other suggestions.

Thanks in advance

I have used it with a TC... but I would suggest changing switching to "DX" mode if you're shooting with a full-frame.
