Go back??? I never left, nor ever thought of leaving.

Leica IIIf, Nikon F, F5, Nikkormat FTN, Nikonos, Bronica C, Bronica SQ-AM, Hasselblad 500C, Graphic View II, Rapid Omega. Nope, I'll never leave them. Same goes for my two Jobo processors. To say nothing of the enlargers I have.

I just added a few digitals, D700 and D800e.

Ditto - may ditch digital if new Ectachrome proves to be as good as the original.

I've gotta go with #3. The high contrast made this a very difficult shot - but you got it!

I'd suggest David Busch's Nikon D5300 published by Cengage Learning. Instruction manuals are good on what the buttons are all about, but books like Busch's explain the why behind the buttons you're pressing. At least it's been beneficial to me, a non-pro. You'll love the 5300.

This is a common problem with the Nikons (N80, N90, F100). Isopropyl alcohol applied with a clean cloth seems to be the preferred method to remove it. Nikon was providing replacement backs until their inventory was depleted. The support person at Nikon indicated it was a problem with the coating they used. They didn't offer any way to remove the tacky coating. Third parties recommended the use of isopropyl. It works.

There was a post on a photo forum (not UHH) several years ago that identified a lab in Germany that still processed Kodachrome. Afraid that's all I remember. K-25 was my favorite.

A really good one is the Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR. I have the 18-140 that I use all the time as a walk around and it's an exceptional all around lens. The only thing I'm missing is the extra reach.

Concur. the Nikkor 18-140mm is an outstanding walk-around lens.

Hello everybody I always read and follow your comments and insights and I appreciate it, I have a question about using manual mode. I am still learning on using my DSLR camera. I have Nikon d7100. Depending on the condition of the light when I choose F-stop and minimum ISO, I am relying on the camera indicator for the Shutter speed, (metering) to be at zero, and then shoot photos. The photo is not bad, but do I have to follow that always or there is a better way. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

I would suggest that you get a copy of David Bush's Nikon D7100 Guide (https://www.amazon.com/Busch%E2%80%99s-Digital-Photography-Buschs-Guides/dp/1285763092/ref=sr_1_20?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1474989790&sr=1-20&keywords=david+busch). David writes in very clear language and actually helps you to understand how to use the variuous camera functions based on what you are shooting.

You'll love the 18-140mm lens. If it's sharp on my D7000, it'll be spectacular on your D5500.

OK, guys, that's enough for now. The challenge has been made and accepted. Please meet in the attic at a time convenient to both for the duel. Your choice of weapons!

And thanks to all the posters for a really good discussion - though I'm still not 100% sure what the difference is between AF-S and AF-P. Maybe a Nikon engineer or tech could enlighten us.

Cheers

We are all familiar with the various lens classifications Nikon has used over the years. Today, they announced a new lens classification - AF-P. All I've been able to glean from various sources is that this new lens class involves the use of a "stepper motor". Perhaps one of our business owners/operators could enlighten us as to what the difference is between an AF-S lens and this new AF-P lens.

Those big paws and large ears are indicative of a Maine Coon. If so, you're going to be blessed with a hugh (25+ pounds) kitty who talks a lot and needs a lot of attention! I would love to find one for myself; but they are not normally found in shelters. Breeders charge $500-1500 for the pure bred cats. Consider yourself blessed.

If they are in very good to mint condition, collectors would be interested in them. These 2 Nikons are probably too old for the younger folks who are developing an interest in film phoyography. eBay is probably your best bet to sell them. Or, you could donate them to the Salvation Army, Goodwill, or other local charities that sell donated items for operating cash. Good luck!
