Can anyone recommend a good, comprehensive book on learning the features of the Nikon D5300. I don't need it to cover composition, just the technical side. Thanks.

Although not a book, Thom Hogan's reviews and specs of the D5300 are very informative. See http://www.dslrbodies.com/newsviews/nikon-drops-the-d5300-on.html for example. Hogan has written books on just about every Nikon DSLR out there, so why no book on this camera is a curiosity. Maybe he explains that in his reviews, one of which describes the release of the D5300 as "Thud."

Usually the instruction book has lots of information but you seem to need more.
Many people just browse through the instructions but they do not actually learn them very well and I am not referring to the D5300 in particular. I am sure there is plenty of technical and practical information in the Internet.
I second the books written on Nikon gear by Thom Hogan.

Thanks for the input. I have read through the user manual. I was wondering if there is any book that's outstanding. Have used the internet and will check out Thom Hogan.

I'm partial to the "for Dummies" series. Do a google search for "Nikon D5300 for Dummies free pdf download". You will really be able to do a free pdf download.

I'd suggest David Busch's Nikon D5300 published by Cengage Learning. Instruction manuals are good on what the buttons are all about, but books like Busch's explain the why behind the buttons you're pressing. At least it's been beneficial to me, a non-pro. You'll love the 5300.

I prefer video to books. Take a look here. It's on sale. I bought it when it was $29.

I have bought several books by Busch that I liked.

I will give you my David Busch book on the 5300. Send me a personal message with your address. It is an excellant book, but I never did buy the camera. I bought a D3300 and then i bought the D5500.

I bought D5300 for Dummies and found it to be very good. I bought used but in very good condition from Barnes and Nobles.

I have used "Nikon D5300 for Dummies" book for over a year now and am very satisfied with it - both as an introduction and as a reference for specific features.

David Busch has one on the D5300. You could also read and download Ken Rockwell's User Guide on this camera. http://kenrockwell.com/nikon/d5300/users-guide/index.htm Do make a donation.
