I tried to follow MtnMan's advice on editing this picture by toning down the highlights.

I tried adding a vignette to it but I didn't like the result.

Thanks to all of you for your kind words. All four animals looked well fed and the three juveniles were very playful.

This was a trip of a lifetime. My wife enjoyed it so much she is now shopping for safaris to Botswana and Zimbabwe!

We came across a family of four cheetah, mother and three cubs while on safari in the Sinya area of northern Tanzania. From the size of the cubs, she would probably cut them loose soon.

This guy was particularly active.

ANY shot like this is wonderful, because you were there and you got it. I wonder why you were shooting at such high ISO at midday in full sun? I've done that accidentally when I moved from shade to sun and back again. Not having the eyes open doesn't bother me. it's a natural thing and I think it means the cat is relaxed.

That day the clouds were moving very rapidly and were very dense at times. The iso on this picture was a mistake. I forgot to adjust back to base.

Thanks Mtnman. I will re-work the picture with your suggestions and look for one with her eyes open.

I wish that I could have posed her but she is a wild animal and we got what she would allow. With five other people in the vehicle, you get the shot that you can not always the best shot.

As far as composition, I think you did a pretty good job under the circumstances. The first image doesn't have enough room to the right of the animal ... better in the second.

Rather than repeat ... heed what Imagemeister said.

Of course a better composition would have resulted if you got out of the vehicle, knelt down in front of the subject and said, "Open your eyes and smile".

She might have damaged my camera.

Shutter speed and ISO too high and a bit of overexposure.......very busy/close backround - I would shoot wide open with lens and focus on head with correct (lower) exposure .

Thanks for your input.

I took these two pictures seconds apart from slightly different angle. Any constructive comments on composition would be appreciated.

I was about six feet away from her shooting handheld through the pop-top roof of our vehicle while standing on the armrests of two seats. It was shortly after noon.

Nikon D5500, VR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G at 55mm, f/11, 1/2000s, aperture priority, ISO 2000, 14-bit raw.

I did post in PSE 14 using ACR 9.5

Ok UHH friends. I have been down for a little bit getting computer upgraded for my new dell 4k monitor. I knew going into this that I would have to scale up my font due to the high resolution of this monitor(P2715Q 27" Ultra HD 4K Monitor by Dell). The problem I am having is with my editing software. I have Lightroom4 and elements 11 I am wondering if there is any way to increase the font size for these programs, or can anyone tell me if the newer versions of these programs support 4k and the font size will not be so small. As far as the monitor goes it is absolutely amazing. For $500.00 a worth while investment. Of course B&H service was Excellent as always. :? :?

I have a Dell P2715Q attached to my Dell XPS-8900 using DisplayPort. I run PSE 14 and I have no problem with the system standard font sizes. My eyesight is not the best and I can function quite comfortably with this monitor in 4K mode (3840x2160). IMHO, the resolution is outstanding.

Try the free preview on PSE 14 you may be pleasantly surprised by the new and improved features. If not, you still have PSE 11.

B&H is also my favorite vendor for all things photographic.

Browse through the preview of Photoshop Elements 13 by Barbara Brundage online at Amazon.com or check out the printed edition at your local bookstore. It may be helpful to you. It is part of the O'Reilly Missing Manual series.

Is there a program to view Raw images in like a slide show?

If you are using a Canon camera, the included free software, ImageBrowser EX, will accept raw files, I tried unprocessed .cr2 files, as input for a slideshow. I can't believe that Nikon, et al would not have a similar function on their respective software dvd's. The Organizer in PSE 13 also will use .cr2 files as input for its slideshow function. It must call ACR to translate images because it took a while before the slideshow started.

The other respondents are correct the files displayed on my screen were pretty bland without some degree of post processing.

I was in Kruger National Park South Africa about a year ago and the guides literally begged us to turn off the GPS feature on our cameras. Poaching is such a problem over there and they don't want to make it easier for the poachers to find their quarry. If you put your pictures on Facebook, Flickr, etc., the coordinates will be uploaded too unless you remove them from the exif data or don't record them in the first place.

How much of a drop off in IQ did you experience with the Sigma lens? Were any of your shots above 200 mm salvageable?

The shots I get are definitely salvageable but not as sharp as those from my Canon 70-200 mm f/4 L at 200 mm cropped. Not a fair test, really, as one is comparing a wide angle to long tele 14X zoom $349 lens to a much more expensive 3X zoom lens. Nevertheless, one gets the shot one can miss changing lenses.

Yeah. At list price, I could buy two of the Sigmas in place of the L glass and still have enough to stop at Starbucks.

Thanks to all for your responses. Since I am, and probably will always be, a wannabe photog, I need to match my playthings with my disposable income. I think I can get good pix, at least by my standards, with the Sigma. Thanks again for your help.
