Hey Hoggers stilll decideing on a low cost photo editor for simple edits. organizing and sharing. Don't want Lightroom or Photoshop and Google Photos suck. I was happy with Picasa. Looking at ACDSEE looks promising. Anyone have an opinion on it? Thanks

I've used ACDSee for many years through several iterations. They have various different levels of software available for installation on your computer (I have never used their online subscription model) for both RAW conversions and editing in both RAW and JPG modes. Needless to say, I have been very happy with their software -- only issue is that used to be somewhat a memory hog because it's so robust and feature-rich, but they have improved that and I think all good editing programs require lots of RAM and the fastest processors, so be sure you have both.

Lou, at this point, I agree that Shutterfly does the best job of the two that I've used, but maybe there's a better product that someone has used. Have you used any other products?

Thanks for your post.

Jose

The last book I did was with Mixbook because it was one of the few that accommodated my 300-page book and a square format. After 7 reprints I finally got a product that was good. The reason for so many reprints was that their printing and trimming was inconsistent (I think they told me they use at least 3 different printing/binding plants, which promotes a lot of inconsistencies from one printing to another). At least they always did the reprints at no charge, but it took several months to finally get the final, acceptable product. Before that I had used Shutterfly for my less-than-110 page books, Picaboo and Kodak Gallery. I had the same problem with Picaboo, but working with their production manager and after about 6 or 7 reprints, she was finally able to get me a book with all photos printed properly and the book trimmed properly. Kodak Gallery, of course, has been out of business for several years, but they did a good job. Again, overall, IMHO, Shutterfly, is still the best and have never had to have more than one reprint to correct printing problems, and then often no reprints at all. But, again, their page limit has limited when I use them, which is only for my smaller books. In answer to another poster's question, I have not used Blurb, but intend to give them a try for my next book since I have heard a lot of good things about them.

If under 110 pages, I think Shutterfly is best, and I have used several different providers, but still like Shutterfly the best, and it has all the features you are looking for. The only problem is that some of my books exceed their page limit, although I haven't check them lately to see if they have increased that.

Nothing in particular, but would like to see what you have in case you have something I would be interested in adding to my Pentax gear.

As a lawyer who has done work in the copyright area, you are correct. By agreeing to their terms while you are not necessarily giving up your ownership of your entry, you definitely are giving them a license to use your photo pretty much in any way they want to without having to ask you for advance permission to do so. This provision is not uncommon for photo contests and other sites, so it is very important that anyone who submits photos to read all the terms and conditions before doing so and to steer clear of them unless you don't care if they use your photo without compensation. Of course, it is pretty standard practice that if you win a prize to give the company a license to publish your winning photo and to use it for their own promotion.

If using "myshuttercount.com" you must upload a jpg, not a RAW file.

You are correct -- I forgot to mention that in my previous post. But it's still very simple, just reset your camera to JPG and that will make your shot and image to upload a JPG.

Since you obviously have a computer and a browser in order to be subscribed to and view UHH, you don't have to be any more computer savvy than that to upload your last image to verify shutter count. Any serious buyer of a DSLR on line will want to know what the actual shutter count is.

Why don't you just post them here, like others do when they are listing equipment for sale. That way others can see them, too. Also please include the shutter activation count. Thanks.

Two ways to get shutter count:
1. go to http://www.myshuttercount.com/ and follow the instructions -- it's very simple.
2. An even simpler way for the original owner who has not changed any recording settings is to just check the file number of the last image you shot. Unless the shutter count has been reset, that number begins with 1 and advances one number for each time an image is recorded.
