The GPS is extremely useful. It gives the exact location where the picture was taken. Here is an example: http://maps.smugmug.com/?feedType=geoAlbum&Data=19302507_HFc3jb
The ZS7 is also a great camera.

I went to an overpass over an interstate and took multiple images of cars speeding by. I used the smoke trail from an airshow for the background. Assembled with photoShop.
I also tried several long exposures using a variable polarizer which produced an undefined smudge.
Let's see what others come up with.

T C Gibson made a good suggestion about the highway. The main thing is to practice with moving objects.

You may want to go the other way and put it together and postprocessing. Not terribly fast the 3100 is still capable of producing about 30 exposures and 10 seconds.

I agree with Guy. A long exposure will likely just give an undefined streak. I would suggest going to an airport to take pictures of takeoffs and landings with long exposures and post processing to see which effect you like the most. You will have many opportunities to practice before the big shoot.

This camera allows you to take picture now and choose focal point later. http://www.lytro.com/#

Actually, you need to focus on something beyond the monitor. If you cross you eyes you will be focusing in front of the monitor.
Also, if you look very closely above the picture, it tell you what it is. ;-)
