This camera allows you to take picture now and choose focal point later.

It's been around for a while. I read one person ordered it October but won't receive it until April or May.
It looks like a fun extra camera, and I'll probably wait until the second generation to get one. You need their specialized software to view and manipulate focus, and that software only runs on Mac right now.

why in the world would a photographer want the software to determine what the focus is?????
Be like letting Newt G do your taxes.....

Why would a photographer want the software to manipulate white balance? Or do composites? It's like any new technology. Some will want to be first to try it, others will wait.

well i guess thats a good point - i mean sure i wouldn't mind having a car that parks for me and tells me where to go and how - since my wife won't park the car.....
yeah i am sure some will want it - but who am i to talk - heck sometimes just for fun I will close my eyes when I shoot just to check out the Heidenberg principle for myself.
I believe that there is already software that will do this if you shoot with a small aperture and have no DOF in your image. Of course I am only 1/4 cup of coffee into my morning, but I was recently reading about this. I'll have to produce the evidence I'm sure.
I don't think Nikon, Canon, Sony, Fuji, or any other 'real' camera manufacturers have anything to worry about. Not from me anyway. I still like making a 'conscious' decision when I look at focus in the viewfinder.

I'm really interested in this because I'm not the fastest at thinking through a shot...but I do love looking at it later and seeing what I have and what I can do with it. I'd love to have one...but I don't have an Apple and I don't have the money to get one. It's just another tool...uhhhh...toy! :)
I'm the guy who ordered it in October with the expectation it will arrive late April/early May. Recently received a confirmation and update.
I don't expect it to replace my Nikon D300 or Sony A77, but thought the novelty and new technology were interesting. We'll keep the forum informed...
Pretty soon the "photographer" can stay home and just send his GPS equipped "camera" out on its own!

one of the girls in my photo club received her's 3 weeks ago. It's a fun little thing, there are some down sides she noted:
display screen is awkwardly located.
only software that works with the images is of course the one that is put out by Lytro and besides changing the focal point it's pretty limited on the PP you can do.
She does love the size and the style, not very many people know it's a camera so it allows her to do some great candid street shots.

Me too, I check out the Heisenberg Principle all the time.
