I have noticed that Sony cameras are much more expensive than what appears to be Panasonic near equivalents. For example, I purchased the Panasonic DMC-ZS100 for $497.99 while the similar appearing Sony DSC-RX100 VI is $1,198.
While the sale prices exaggerate the differences slightly, is there a good reason to pay so much more?
I own an RX100 iii and it is a superb small travel camera. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend any of the RX100 line. That being said, I recently dumped my Sony crop sensor camera for a Panasonic G9 and I love it. Really put the fun back in photography for me. If I was buying today for a travel camera, I'd get one of the Panasonic bridge cameras with a 1" sensor; not as small or pocketable, but - for me anyway - much easier and more fun to use. I did hang on to my RX100iii and will use it when very small size is a requirement; the IQ is simply superb given good light.
