I would have to say it was my Nikon 24-120 f4 on the front of my D750. I think this year it will probably be my Nikon 24-70 f4 S mounted on either my z5 or the z6ii I am planning on purchasing.

I tried for a few nights to shoot the conjunction. Finally was semi-successful with my Nikon D750 at iso 800, 1/640 sec, f8, at 600mm on a Sigma 150-600 C. Needed to do a fair amount of cropping but Saturn and it's rings came out very nice. Jupiter was over exposed but I got what I wanted.

I have a D750, D7500, Z5, and Z50. The Z50 is a delight to carry around compared to the others and probably gets more use than the other 3 combined. But if I could only have one it would probably be the Z5. With the FTZ I can use all of the lenses that I've been using on my 750. And the new z lenses that I am slowly acquiring are ridiculously sharp. DSLRs are imho, on their way out at the non-pro level. I still love both of mine......they serve a purpose, but my future $$$ are going into mirrorless gear. Get a z5, z6, or if you need the mpx, the 7ii. I think in the long run, this is your best choice.

One other question, I read in a recent post that the FTZ adapter is good but it does run into a few limitation. I also have a moderate number of Nikon mount lenses, from Sigma, Pro Tokina series and Nikon. Have either of you found any compatibility issues using the FTZ mount?

My z5 works with all AF-S and AF-P lenses when using the FTZ. All functions are also supported on my Tamron and Sigma lenses. The FTZ will not support auto focus on older AF-D lenses. While it is nice being able to use my existing lenses on both my z5 and z50, it is, to me anyway, 'clunky' feeling. It makes my nice, relatively compact 24-120 seems bulky. So much so that I bought a z24-70, which I love.

Currently considering #4.

Since March I've added 3 bodies and 7 lenses. Just had to order another case to fit some of it in. My AMEX is really getting a workout.

Maybe time to add a second body.....or a third.

Got an e mail from B&H this week where they were selling a Sigma 150-600 C for just over $700 brand new. I've recently seen used ones on Craigslist for more than that. And what I paid several months ago for a Nikon z50 makes me want to cry when I see what they are selling for now. And a z6 is now about the same price that I paid for my z5. Ah well......the price of GAS.

Both are good, the 7200 has a few more 'goodies'. But if you have a few more $$$ but not quite enough for a 500, then take a serious look at the 7500. This camera is overlooked by many in favor of the 500, but it has many of the same qualities end features. Plus it's an easy transition from what you shoot now.

Maybe a better question should be a recommendation for a walk around lens to use with my D810

I love my Nikon 24-120 f4. Noticeably wider but not quite the reach, but you have enough mpx to crop. Plus in my experience with both lenses the 24-120 is a bit sharper with better color reproduction than the 28-300.

Nikon 16-80 f2.8/4 is a fantastic lens that covers the 'sweet spot' for most walk around situations. Or, if you can find a good used 16-85, it will do the same thing just a stop slower. Check out mpb for their used inventory. I have found them to be reliable and truthful in their description of product condition.

Seems like the D850 is on back order everywhere I have looked. I wonder why? Good luck with your decision.

The D850 is currently $500 off normal price, nearly the same as a D780, so that could be why they are hard to find right now.

The z series will all be fairly easy to make the transition to from a D750. I shoot a 750 and have recently bought both a z50 (great aps-c body, and very small and lightweight), as well as a z5. The z5 is about the same size as my D7500. The only downside for me has been the lenses. Buying new mirrorless lenses is not cheap. Yeah, I know the ftz adaptor will work but I tried it and find it bulky and clumsy feeling. Take a serious look at the z50. It's rapidly becoming my favorite walk around camera, especially with the almost pancake like 16-50 lens.

I use a MeFoto travel tripod. Not too bulky, fits in a carry-on and doesn’t weigh a ton yet sturdy enough for my Olympus and the biggest lens they make for it.

I use one of these when I go hiking. Relatively lightweight and it folds down small enough to easily fit in a daypack. Plus it's really sturdy for anything up to a cropped sensor camera with a medium sized lens or even a full frame with a small zoom.

If you go with an 18-55 make sure you get one that will auto focus on your 3100. The newer AF-P lens will not. If you can find a used 16-85 (try mpb) it is a great walk around lens.

Hope this is as a straight foward question as I would like it to be. For owners of the D 850 after using the D 850 would you buy again after your experience with it?

I have a related question for all you uhh folks......how do you feel the new z7 II compares with the D850? Will be buying one or the other soon. Currently shooting a D750, a z5, and a z50
