Generic Apple comment.

I have a friend that is a pastor (small town - not a mega church $xxx, xxx salaried pastor) he bought stock in Apple when it was selling for next to nothing. Today his 401k is at a little over $1.4 million and a large part of that is from the years of owning Apple stock. Interestingly, he does not own any Apple products.

This example is Apple not screwing the little guy - this is Apple doing what it supposed to do, make as much profit as it can for it's stock holders. A concept lost on too many people. Apple owes it stock owners it's best efforts - and so does every other company. (best efforts encompasses a lot of factors - profits being one of them). The individual that gains from stock ownership can take their money and give it away if they want to, who cares.

Apple certainly seems to think so. How else do you justify a $630 profit on a $1,000 iphone X?

How in the hell is this screwing the little guy? If you don't want a $1,000 phone don't buy it. If you think Apple makes too much profit, don't give them any of your money. If you like the iPhone X and it does what you want it to do and that is worth $1,000 to you, why do you care how much it cost to make it?

It's no secret Apple has a high profit margin and buying their stuff is a choice - nobody is putting a gun to your head.

Good grief .........

There are 4,752 Walmart stores, 660 Sams (soon to be 600?), 402 Walmart Discount stores, 701 Walmart Neighborhood markets, 17 Amigo stores, and other corporate affiliations.

So they're successful. That doesn't mean their liquid and have billions in their checking account but what they have done is provide jobs for 1 million people (people that applied for the jobs and are not being held there at gunpoint) and services that people apparently want and are willing to pay for. It has been pointed out here that they have a large charitable foundation and operate at a low PAT yet they are guilty of not doing enough by some arbitrary standard (my arbitrary standard says they're doing enough).

If you research charitable contributions and read more than one survey, data dump, article .... whatever .... you find trends appear. They are interesting and can be informative.

Those being closed are consistently underperforming stores, and their closure has been in the works for some time. The action has nothing to do with the new tax laws.
Walmart is in business to make money, just like any other business.

Thank You - a factual answer as opposed to an emotional response.

.....it ***IS*** their right to do so. The NFL took the right stance, to do nothing.

You are correct - it is their right. Others have the right to not care, to not watch, and to speak freely their opinions about the kneelers. The NFL also has the right to do nothing, they also have the right to not allow it. They choose a direction that some people don't like and those people are expressing their right.

I'm on the fence about Trump calling them out. He didn't use the government to forcibly prohibit them from kneeling but it may come off as intimidation as he is the President. I'm going to go with he has a right to his opinion, too - the players obviously were not intimidated and he didn't do anything to stop them.

Anyway, seems like it is all good. Everyone got to air their opinion.

One other thought: Kapernick doesn't have a right to play in the NFL as some (not you) think - the NFL is a non-governmental organization and the teams are private businesses. If the teams view Kapernick as toxic they just won't hire him - and apparently that is the situation.

Did you know Henry Koneczne (sic?) ?

He was in his mid-60s when I was there - He ran the school when I was there - was EGH for decades. He had something like 16 kids and his wife was killed in a car accident when the youngest was 1 or 2 - raised them all himself after that. He was one of a kind!

......in the Pintos, Mustangs, and a few others the top of the fuel tank was the floor of the trunk, talk about a disaster waiting to happen

I was a student (Rad Tech) at Elkhart General Hospital, Elkhart, IN in the late 70s when they brought in 2 high schools girls that were in a Pinto that got rear ended and burst into flames. I was taking a patient back to ER and walked past one of the cubicles that had one of the girls in it - she was sitting upright on the stretcher, with the most terrified look on her face - she was unbelievably severely burned (she looked like a plastic doll that melted). She died shortly after. I will never erase that from my head.

Those Pintos were rolling bombs - we'll never know what Ford knew or when they knew it but the times were different then - not as sophisticate with engineering, knowledge, technology, etc. - I guess. You don't see/hear as much about that kind of stuff these days - at least I haven't.

First off: any "photographer" in 2018 worthy of the title has software installed on their computer(s) to read the EXIF ... Most everyone spending time listing out the data available in the EXIF hasn't yet earned their photographer card for 2018 ...

Second, you know full well this site is more of a social site with a focus (mostly) on photography. Judging the performance of the general crowd is not a way to judge a photographer ... see 1st point as a reminder, as needed.
First off: any "photographer" u in 2018... (show quote)

I would agree with you but a lot of photos have minimal EXIF data in them. Usually if there is a watermark on the photo the poster has blocked any info about the camera, f-stop, ISO, aperture, and lens type in the EXIF data. I don't know if people intentionally restrict their EXIF or if the software or camera they use is defaulted to limit it. I'll look at the EXIF data if there is something about a picture that piques my interest and it is usually a waste of time - limited data.

The missing part about your mom and your grandmother are interesting, not that the part about your uncle isn't. I wonder if whatever your mom was doing is related to your grandmother's "recognition"?

You need to go back over there and figure this out, this is like not watching the last 10 minutes of a mystery movie .... :)

Good lord..... this gets old.

I know - I don't have to read them and I didn't read many (4) - the title of the post didn't necessarily indicate a 'mine is bigger than yours' thread. I open a lot of threads and read a few of the posts that if the title was indicative of the content I would not have opened it in the first place. Not a complaint - simply a fact.

I saw this on another site. The faster you drive, the more gas you use to go the same distance, increasing the relative price per gallon. Click on "Observe the Speed Limit" and enter the info your car.

The calculator is not exactly accurate. I have a 2013 Tacoma, 4WD, V6, automatic and a 2015 Toyota Avalon V6, auto. The calculator has the Tacoma getting better mileage (lower cost per gallon) and that is BS. I get about 20.5 to 21 at 65mph in the truck and 32 to 33 in the car. (This is if I drive a long distance on a highway at approx. 65mph otherwise the overall averages are 19.1 and 27.6 in mixed driving). 87 octane in both.

When I typed agreed I should have been more clear - I agreed that I don't read past a certain number - not that it should be limited. I don't care if a thread goes for 12,000 pages - I just won't be reading them.

I had a Sigma 150-600, took some pics of the moon and the neighbors horse trailer - it was fun to mess with but I didn't use it enough to make sense to keep the 'investment'. Sold it to a friend of mine that uses it to take pics of his son playing soccer.
