How many pages does it take to screw up a lightbulb?

I love good topics, ... But does anyone really want to read beyond page 3, or 7, or 10?

If my reply is going to be buried below the obits and classifieds, why trouble people to read that far?

I propose a 4 page 'term limit' on all posts. After which only the OP can expand on the topic.

And, as long as I have the microphone, why complain about rehashing a topic? Refreshing is always refreshing. If you don't care to get involved just go back to sleep.

I know what you mean, on any forum I’m on I don’t even bother replying hardly ever after a thread goes to page two.

Agreed.

I don't read past ... maybe page 3.

I don't see the problem. If people want to keep adding something, let them post. If I come cross a question that's gone on for several pages, I'll reply to the OP and make a comment. I might skim through some of the other replies, but I'm not going to read ten pages of comments.

Sometimes, a topic is interesting enough for good replies to continue for a while. If I get in at the beginning of a discussion, I'll often follow additional replies until I lose interest. If we limit discussion to a certain number of pages, we might be missing out on some good replies.

When I typed agreed I should have been more clear - I agreed that I don't read past a certain number - not that it should be limited. I don't care if a thread goes for 12,000 pages - I just won't be reading them.

Your proposal is not necessary; and not fair. Stop reading when you want to, but don't gag people who have further thoughts and ideas.
"We don't need no thought control".

I admire your spirit, K9, but wouldn't that be thought control? ...to require necessity?
Otherwise... Good to see the comments.

I have thought about sending PM's to people instead of posting. Is that polite or intrusive?

If the thread is interesting and has active participation, why put a limit on pages? If you or someone else loses interest, they can always drop out at anytime.

As far as PM, not a bad or intrusive thing when used properly. Of course, expect to be blocked (as with any general post) if you overstep your bounds.

If it is a good and interesting topic I will read to the end regardless of how many pages it takes. What I hate are the trolls that add nothing to the topic.
