Thank you Haydon. You provided much food for consideration with your thoughtful answer to my question. Much appreciated. Shoot well- keep some, share some.

When I shot with an DSLR I always used a Loupe. But now I own a mirrorless camera I don't need one because you can see everything thought the EVF. I'm 63 and this is my biggest reason for switching over to a mirrorless.

Do you find your mirrorless easier to close-focus when getting "up close and personal" capturing images?
(NOT asking as a smart**s UHH punk) - would appreciate your "take" -- beyond your reply. What's good/bad about "old-guy" conversion from DSLR to "mirrorless?"

The intimidate prior post was simply the word "Hoodman" How is that word referencing a well know product designed for the Op's problem "curmudgeonly"?

It's called "nastalgia," or wishes for simpler times- "1953" is just making an observation. No harm - No foul. Simple as that. I was born in 1953; I understand these sorts of things. Some don't. They get lost in the threads of UHH.

Please learn to use "Quote Reply" so your comments can be read in context. We have no idea what "is a curmudgeonly thing to say", if you do not include it in your reply.

The "carmudgeounly thing" is what follows in the carmudgeon's *own* post- which is a general *direct reply* to the OP's topic.

This is a curmudgeonly thing to say, but I never had that problem with any of my Nikon F's or 'Blads. New technology, new problems.
Good luck.

I "miss" my Nikon F also, but then again, it did not enable me to magnify an image and get better/sharper focus in certain shooting situations.

I shoot the Tamron 90SPDi on a D7200 and am *very pleased* with its performance. $300 (also) well-spent in my opinion. Good enough that, now that I know its performance, I would pay even closer to "retail" willingly.

I went from 14 to 19 on a MacBook Pro and experienced no problems.

You can purchase passive 15 foot USB cables (which meet the USB max cable length limitation of 5M) or longer active cables.

Thank you. My point (perhaps feebly made) is that removing/inserting a cable to one's camera is akin to removing/inserting a memory card, or any other interface between computers. Your camera is a computer. Cables are little different from memory cards. All sytems must be "Go" before attempting transfer. And, yes- pencil erasers are bad for card contacts, as you concur. Happy shooting.

Do you have a PC-to-camera cabled connection?

I never take out the cards in my D500 or D750. I have cables which connect both cameras to my computers. I down load the files, format, etc., without ever removing the cards.

I'm probably a combination of lazy, and IT-oriented - Never remove anything from a computer that doesn't require removal. It's always too easy to damage contacts.

Your camera is *also a computer.* Do you shoot all images tethered to your computer? Also being IT-oriented, am wondering where to get cables that long?

If you try to clean the contacts on the SD card use an eraser of a pencil. Some chemicals can soften the cards and abrasives can destroy the cards.

WELCOME, Frogger to UHH (!). I don't see where anyone else has welcomed you to the UHH forum where there are many divergences from topics, AND there is excellent information if you sift it out. I'm not by any means the official welcoming committee; as you can see I'm not a "regular here," yet have been a member for some years. *Don't* be discouraged by negative responses which might be posted. Feel your way around/explore the site, try to give enough information when you ask questions, make comments. May your photos be keepers- keep shooting! I've been at it for around 50 years, so all my images are "perfect" now.

Pencil erasers *are* abrasive. Don't do this. Just my 'umble $.02 worth.
