Well I purchased the 6D when it came out, outstanding camera, decided to give mirrorless a whirl with the Oly EM1 system, used it for a year, and went back to the 6D just a month ago, now I am happy again!
Hope this helped, the 6D is a great camera.

Thank you guy's for all the suggestions, I decided to give the Canon 100mm L a whirl, hope that will do the trick for me.

Nothing wrong with this one, was a sample pic, done with a Nikon D800, I don't remember the lens anymore, the model is about 3ft long, rather large compare to HO.

Thank you guy's for all the suggestions, here is a typical picture around my hobby, a 1:32 scale live steam locomotive pic, the lens I seek is what I would call a close up lens for this purpose.

Sorry forgot the budget, don't really have one, I realize for $200.00 I cannot expect a good lens, don't want to spend thousand's either, can be Sigma or tokina too, I have the Canon 24-100 L and 17-40mm L which work good but just not that good for the intended task, believe me I tried.
thanks for the suggestions so far, I will look into the 100mm lens.

Need some advise on a good close up lens (not macro) for my 6D, primarily to take pictures of hobby items like model trains and similar items, any help would be appreciated.

Buy the Olympus OMD E-M1, not the Sony. The Oly has better everything: EVF, touchscreen/tiltscreen, lens selection (along with Panasonic--Leica selections), in-body 5-axis stabilization, focusing speed, image software, weathersealing, and image quality.

100% concur, I come from using Canon D1's the EVF is the best on the Olympus, after using my EM1 for a few month now I do not miss the canon huge "tanks".......

I have the EM1 and the EM5 for a few month now, kinda stepping down from 2 Nikon D1's, I retired from photography as a job but wanted to have something smaller than the huge Nikon's, had several Olympus DSLR's way back the E10 E20 and so on let me tell you, the EM's are great, the menu is quite easy to understand and navigate, plus making fantastic pictures, do not miss my big 1D's at all....if budget is an issue try the EM10.

I have a dilemma, I am a Canon guy with a couple of 1D's and my wife is a Nikon gal, I finally (took forever) convinced her to switch to Canon so we can share way more lenses, I am scratching my head trying to figure out which Canon camera would be equivalent to the Nikon D5200, any help would be appreciated.

Which Nikon were you using, and which Canon did you switch to?

I switched from one Nikon to another, and my pics got waaay better too. But today, if I switched from my Nikon to a comparable Canon (5DMarkIII), I'm pretty sure my pics would be waaay the same. :-D

aaah, the fire is simmering....
Started with Canon film way back when, at start of digital went through the Olympus E series, gave Nikon a shot with D100 then D200, then D600 to the D800, this one made great pics but was never happy with handling, ditched all my Nikon stuff bought 6D which I still have and added D1 MK4 and D1s MK4, when I compare pictures taken with the Nikons (which is nothing to complain about) I find pics taken with the Canons seem sharper and more color depth, maybe being more comfortable with the Canons handling makes adjustments easier and improves pictures I took.

Nana, welcome to the Hog.
If you just let your head explode, then all the pressure will be gone, and you will be able to think clearly again!!
Actually, if you had a Canon, you wouldn't even be going through all of this misery!!!! ;-)
SS

100% percent behind you, had Nikon for years, switched to Canon and pics got waaay better, and yes maybe a little snob appeal, boy this will catch some fire........

I am looking for a more "in depth" book on the Canon 1D MK3 and 1Ds MK3, I am looking but can find only the so called "field guides", does anybody know a publisher?
I know my way around them pretty well, but like to know about many settings on how they influence others and learn more about them.
Any help will be appreciated.
