Nikon has three manuals on-line that can be downloaded for the D500. The regular manual that ships with the camera and two technical manuals outlining how to setup the custom functions. I am wading through them awaiting the delivery of my duplicate of your purchase.

I am very fortunate to have a friend who buys a large quantity of Canon regular printer paper and every time she gets a new shipment, Canon sends her a bunch of photo paper samples. Over time she has accumulated at least two grocery bags full of packaged, boxed, brand new photo paper and gives it to me. Unfortunately, I have a HP printer and the ink smears on the Canon paper, not all but some anyway.

So I need a relatively inexpensive, yet decent photo printer for canon paper. Anybody got a suggestion? I looked at reviews on Amazon for the model 7220, I think it was and that seemed okay for give away photos. Don't want to spend much but it is a shame to have all that paper sitting around going unused.

p.s. I'd pass some of it along for nothing but it would cost me to ship it and it is heavy stuff...

Sold the Nikon ED 300mm f4.0, thanks.

Bill Waxman

I do have another lens for sale, actually a couple of them. Unlike the 300mm these do need some attention. One needs a new spring for the Auto/Manual button ring. It is otherwise in excellent shape, no fungus, mold etc. it is the 80-200mm f2.8 ED IF AF lens with case, caps, UV filter, lens shade, etc.. Photo available and samples of photos taken with it as well.

$300.00 for the 80-200mm

Finally, what is probably one of the sharpest lenses ever made by Nikon, the 28-70mm f2.8 SWM AF, 72mm UV filter, case, caps, lens shade. It will balk sometimes on autofocus but responds to a quick adjustment to the A/AM focus ring snapping into focus. This one will work on any modern Nikon DSLR as the motor is in the lens. A wonderfully clean lens except as noted, no scratches, no fungus, always stored in its case with caps on it would be a great addition to a full frame camera and a little odd for a DX version which is what I have had and will continue to use.

First offer for it gets the 28-70mm $400.00 but, if someone wants the pair they are theirs for $650.00 total plus shipping cost via probably UPS.

Otherwise separately as stated. Never used in the rain or much outdoors except in nice sunny weather no fungus or mold on either.

We thought we would have a nice somewhat chilly drizzly day but were clobbered with that beautiful weather that seems to come upon us at this time of year. After morning of threat we had a brief shower or two then clear blue sky again. Temps seem to hover right around 64-70 F with rare days of near 80+ just to keep us honest.

I have the D7100 and the older Tamron 18-270mm DII lens (B003). My guess is that the newer version is a little quicker to focus than mine but no better. I might have been lucky with my example of the lens but am quite satisfied with the results.

Attached is a shot I took on Monday this week with it at 18mm using BASIC, SMALL settings Auto Focus etc.. Not anywhere near the high resolution capability of the camera yet... Edge to edge sharpness with great latitude and not processed at all, just the way the image came out of the camera.

If I did any post processing I might straighten the horizon just a tad as my typical slightly less than level stance has placed the right side lower than the left but, what the heck.

Can't guaranty that you will get his result with another Tamron, if you choose to buy one, but I have used mine on my D7000, D1x, D7100 and will likely continue to use it when I get my D500 in a few months. No reason at all to change horses to something heavier or larger or more costly. I also have the 80-200mm f2.8, 300mm f4.0, 50mm f1.4 and the old but astoundingly sharp 28-70mm f2.8 AFS SW Nikon lenses. My "walk-around lens is the Tamron.

For reference, the view is from South Beach on San Juan Island, WA looking roughly south toward the Olympic Mountain range looking over the Straight of Juan de Fuca.

Indeed, the secret is in the parameters you set.

I suggest that you use the two memory slots to save your most often used settings, one for .jpg and the other for NEF (RAW for those who are not familiar with Nikon). That way you can use P for those "other" times and program in what you want easily returning to "normal". It is very easy to forget what you have done but there is a way, using the menu to review your most recent settings. Look for it!

Bob:

Here is a link to find the firmware update for the FT-1:

http://downloadcenter.nikonimglib.com/en/download/fw/102.html

Be very careful and be sure to read the instructions. If you use, for example, a Tamron 18-270mm "B003" (engraved on the bottom of the lens relative to being mounted on a Nikon camera) the update may negate the ability of the Nikon 1 to communicate with the lens. That is what happened to my gear.

Has anyone managed to find a fix for the latest update of firmware for the Nikon FT-1 which kills compatibility with some Nikon and, in my experience, the Tamron 18-270mm zoom? The Nikon 1 V1 will not recognize either a 70-200mm f2.8 VR nor the Tamron when installed on the camera using the FT-1. I have read of this problem elsewhere but here is where the answer might be found, if anywhere.

Do any of you have disassembly and reassembly instructions for the Nikon 85mm f1.4 manual focus lens? I had found them on-line in the past but no longer can locate the web site that contained them.

Thanks for your help.

Nikon claims one more stop for the VRII compared to VR. It may be that the range of compensatory movement of the elements within the lenses thus marked has been increased to allow greater latitude. Please see the following web site which tries to explain this:

http://www.differencebetween.net/technology/difference-between-nikon-vr-and-vr-ii/

I found this by "Googling" and cannot offer any assurance of the accuracy contained within the article but it seems to make sense to me except for the "creep" portion. I think that the lock can only be set when the lenses are collapsed but not while in any other zoom position.

You know, that argument back and forth over systems is very tiring and boring. As I said, in not so many words, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. What works best for an individual is what they should use. Nobody can advise them what that will be, we can only say what works for us and let the questioner make up their own mind. I have gotten the most flack when I made a strong recommendation for any one item and then the person following the advice turned out to hate the thing recommended. So, beware what you "recommend".
