Canon Photo Printer question

I am very fortunate to have a friend who buys a large quantity of Canon regular printer paper and every time she gets a new shipment, Canon sends her a bunch of photo paper samples. Over time she has accumulated at least two grocery bags full of packaged, boxed, brand new photo paper and gives it to me. Unfortunately, I have a HP printer and the ink smears on the Canon paper, not all but some anyway.

So I need a relatively inexpensive, yet decent photo printer for canon paper. Anybody got a suggestion? I looked at reviews on Amazon for the model 7220, I think it was and that seemed okay for give away photos. Don't want to spend much but it is a shame to have all that paper sitting around going unused.

p.s. I'd pass some of it along for nothing but it would cost me to ship it and it is heavy stuff...

I have a Canon Pixma Pro 100. Results are excellent and you can get one new for $100.00 - $200.00 depending on the rebate deal you find.
Ink set new from Canon is about $125.00, so that's a consideration.

I just gave up an HP after having problems with the in cartridges and bought the Canon 7720. So far it is a great printer and a good back up for my Canon Pro 1 when not wanting to print framable photos.

Seriously, this printer is one of Canons best consumer printers and you can have it for a song after rebate.

You can even find it for less on Craigslist because many people have found deals that gets the printer free after rebate when purchasing a camera kit and the printer at the same time. That's how I got one of mine. This one is wireless and uses 9 printer cartridges. (I think it's 9) You can print up to 19x13 and get stunning results. I buy 3rd party ink for a song compared to the price of OEM. A set of OEM is about $125 but you can get 3rd party sets for less than $30. I bought a set from Canon for the price of $124.99 but like the friend that gave all that paper to you, they (Canon), included $640 of absolutely free paper with my purchase. They have done this for the past 2 years that I know of.

The Canon 7220 is about $90 at Staples, the 7720 is about $130 at the same vendor. Compare the specs for each and decide. The extra $40 might be worth it. Per other member suggestions, be sure to take ink cost into account. As we often say here, Google is your friend.

The Canon Pixma Pro series are excellent printers, although big and heavy. A full set of Canon inks is pricey, but there are some very good rebate deals from time to time, some bringing the cost of the printer including a full set of inks down to as low as $50. Some people here use third party inks that are much cheaper, and seem not to have problems.

Peterff - The OP may not have room enough for the large footprint of the Canon 100 and also may not want to shell out the cost of OEM ink for the Canon 100. Just sayin' - not trying to assert it's a bad printer - it's not.

That's pretty much what I said if you read my post. Big, heavy, pricey ink. I'm assuming that the OP is intelligent enough to look up the details, they are not hard to find.

I have the Canon Pixma Pro 100 printer. If those photo paper samples you have include 13X19 paper, this printer will handle that size, and give you a very nice print. This printer is large and heavy. I love the pro platinum and pro luster paper, but do not like the matte paper. This printer has 8 individual ink cartridges.

Bill, I had a top tier HP photo printer and around a year ago had the same problem. It was not only with any paper from non HP supplier but also with their semi-gloss paper. Went back and forth with their CSRs and the net was their ink was not compatible with gloss or semi-gloss paper. I gave the printer to my son and bought a Canon printer and have had no problems since then. Just my experience and others maybe different.
