Just picked up a new D500 with the 16-80 "kit" lens. Wasn't planning on getting the lens with it but I'm glad I did. It's actually a really nice lens and as part of a kit, and really great price. I'm far more familiar with Canon products and this is my second Nikon DSLR; quite the learning curve. I've spent the past two days with the camera and manual teaching myself how to use this amazing camera and have just scratched the surface. Anyone know of any good books on the D500? I stopped by the local Barns & Noble and they had books on several Nikon models but not the D500.

There are a couple well reputed authors,David Busch and Darrell Young are the two of the best. Both of their books will not be available until the end of next month. I have three of Busch's books and I am waiting for his "David Busch’s Nikon D500 Guide to Digital SLR Photography." Preorder on Amazon.

I agree with DaveO's recommendations of Darrell Young's and David Busch's books.

I have a couple of David Busch's books. No Darrell Young books.
You'd think there would be more books available for a camera the caliber of the D500. I've found lots of books on Canon Rebel models and the D3300 & D5500 but nothing on the best in class D500.
Thanks for the tip...

I believe Thom Hogan's D500 book is available currently.
It is about 1000 pages and comes as a PDF download.

I have a D500. I don't have a book recommendation here are a couple of things to look at. I found that the movie record button to the left and behind the shutter button can be re-programmed. I assigned Mode to the button. That's one of the functions on the cluster of four buttons on the top left but it's convenient to have it close to the shutter button. Be sure to program the Fn1 and Fn2 buttons. I assigned virtual horizon to the Fn1 button and My Menu to the Fn2 button. You may want to look at that and assign functions that you use a lot.

I found a video instruction for the D500 from Lynda.com. It was exactly what I needed to shortcut the learning curve for setting up the camera and understanding the rather complex operations of the autofocus system and settings. I watched it several times taking notes for what was particularly relevant for me. I have never used Lynda.com before (I have subscribed to KelbyOne...), and it isn't necessary to subscribe. They have a 10 day free trial and it is very easy to cancel. I didn't find any other topics on Lynda of interest to me. I thought the D500 was excellent though. For whatever its worth...

Darrell Young's book on the D7100 is extremely through and very well done. I refer to it often and a great compliment to the owner's manual.

As detailed and thorough as Young and Busch are,it is no surprise that they need time to put together a comprehensive guide.

Note: I am not slighting other authors, but am just familiar with the work of these two.
