In most camera reviews these days, the reviewer mentions the grip that the camera has - you know, that bulge that's provided for those who are right-handed. I see how the grip is handy, but it's a relatively new feature. I've had Nikons and other brands of film cameras that had no grip at all. I don't recall reviews saying that they were difficult to hold, and I never dropped a camera because it was "bulge-less."

Maybe someone can find the first camera that had the grip/bulge, but my thumb and fingers are able to hold onto most things without enhancements. I suspect part of the reason for the grip is to provide the manufacturer with room for internal components. The "grip" is an accidental bonus.

No, camera control is crucial, and designers know that is a component that consumers are expecting.

Really nice! It's a lot of fun to go back and reprocess.

99% of available "L" brackets work with ARCA Swiss brackets. The only other clamp pattern I am aware of is Manfrotto. If that is the case, consider changing your ball head to be ARCA Swiss-compatible. There is a lot of choices for A-S "L" brackets.

Have you tried cleaning the contacts on the lens body? There's lots of YouTube videos that address the safe way to clean these.

Fall is upon us, and the really juicy targets are above the horizon.

This image of the California Nebula was stacked from 60 ea 180-sec exposures and processed in Pixinsight and Lightroom Classic.

In a few weeks, Orion!

Wonderful.
What kind of gear are you using to capture such an image? How many exposures, total exposure time? I just recently started dabbling with astro photography, small dabbling. These photos amaze me

Here is the rig:

Williams Optics RedCat51, a 250mm f/4.9 telescope
ZWO ASI533MC Pro cooled color camera with 1" square, 9 Mp Sony color sensor.
Optolong L-Extreme light pollution filter that only passes Hydrogen and Oxygen wavelengths.
Sky-Watcher EQM-35 German Equatorial Mount that tracks what I target
ZWO ASI AIR Plus is a Raspberry Pi computer that controls the camera, mount, and the ZWO electronic focuser

The images were built from 60 ea 180-second exposures, which works well with a bright object like NGC1499.
Images were stacked and processed in Pixinsight and finished in Lightroom Classic. Oh, and I do this from my backyard in Los Angeles, California, the most light-polluted city in the US.

I have been doing this for 1½ years, and believe me, this is the most complex photography I have ever done. I look back to the images I processed then and cringe. You can do credible astrophotography with a DSLR or mirrorless system and a fast 200 mm lens.

California Nebula, NGC1499 1000 L.Y. in the constellation Perseus. A very satisfying target, since the time change, I can capture a lot more data.

So, yes I am not good at deciding what is the best composition. I suppose it will vary from person to person. I could never be a pro that sells photos as I could not decide which is the best.

So thanks for your patience when I post a few of the same subject. It is hard when I find something very beautiful.

Beautiful set. Nothing rivals the western US.

I have a D7100 and a D700, and am looking to move up a notch. I have many older Nikkor lenses and some newer ones like a Rokinon 8mm, a Tokina 100mm, and a Sigma C 150-600. I wonder if anyone can tell me their experiences with this camera, especially shooting with the FTZ converter.... Thanks for any advice. I see a used one up for sale at B&H for $1400.

Thanks for any comments and/or advice!

Joe

I know several Pros who transitioned from a D750 to a Z6II and the FTZ adapter with older lenses, most notably the 24-70 F and the 28-250 without any issues. Of course, you will get better performance from native "Z" lenses and there are some top performers from Sigma and Tamron available that will save you expense vs Nikon OEM.

I just want the steps either in Lightroom or photoshop or a video that will guide me. I have other city scapes or landscapes with shadows that need corrected. The time is later by 6 hours than shown in the data and the photo taken at 11:54 am not 5:54 am. This is the out of camera Jpeg and I will develop the NEF. The only youtube videos I have found have not been helpful.

In the Develop module, use the masking panel and select the brush tool. Size with the "[ ]" keys to fit. Set feathering to something like 80 for the margins of the shadow. Holding the left mouse button down, drag the brush to cover the shadow area. Then adjust the Shadows slider to lighten. Then fiddle with blacks and contrast until you get the overall look you want.

You probably won't be able to remove all the shadow, but you'll definitely be able to lighten it.
