Interesting article on how China is generating f**e images to stir Americans against one another. I'm sure the Russians will be doing something similar.

I wonder how many have shown up or will show up on this forum?

And don't you think the USA is doing the same in both China and Russia in spades?

Excellent! I don't like Biden much but here he did the right thing. Bravo.

Try Topaz B&W-2. The program converts color to BW but you can select the color filter you would have had on your BW camera. There is a grain additive. "4. This final steps is for applying important finishing touches to your image. It includes toning, vignettes, grain and more"

Go to the site to see your new BW camera:

Even better is Nik B&W Effex, which has presets to recreate the gamma, tonality and grain of most all the monochrome films of yesteryear. It's now paid, but with a little research the older free version can still be found for download.

I'm sure they will immediately offer one in silver just so that you might consider buying it 😉

I am considering the Hasselblad X2D for crop factor and gear reduction. 100 mpx quality can make it feasible. I see Lieca is moving to a fixed lens with one or more of their models now, and marketing the idea of the crop factor vs an interchangeable lens is now something well beyond the old digital zoom of the past in fixed lens camera's.

I guessing as technology advances in camera sensors, interchangeable lenses will eventually become museum pieces. I realize sports and action is a whole different ball game but...

It is interesting non the less and wonder if anyone can comment on this in as an option in their professional work...

Interchangeable lenses will be with us always. There is no way to approach the optical characteristics of lenses of different focal length and diameter with cropping.

Is there such thing as a quiet DSLR? I shoot regularly with an Olympus EM-10 camera that is quiet, quiet, quiet. The one thing I don't like about the Olympus is the electronic viewfinder. I have experimented with various DSLR cameras and find them to be extremely noisy, but I like everything else about them. It seems that the only way to have a workable optical viewfinder is with a DSLR. Comments, suggestions.

You should check out some of the latest mirrorless offerings, as evfs keep getting better and better, and offer some noteworthy advantages over ovfs, once you get used to them.

I generaly think you know more about this stuff than I do, but I don't get this one. How many countries should we have allowed Putin to take before doing anything? Do you feel history has treated Chamberlain unfairly? If you feel it's apples and oranges, please explain. I'll listen. It looks to me like Putin was looking for any excuse to invade Ukrain. Or, possibly he was going to invade Ukrain no matter what, and he found something to blaim it on. If not NATO I believe he would have found something else. As I said before you likely have a lot more background on this than I do, but I'd sure like you to explain. I know you don't mind criticizing this country when warranted, and I respect that, but this doesn't seem wrong to me. Tragic, and scarey, but the only reasonable choice. If I'm wrong, it won't be the first time. Wh**ever happened, I don't believe we would say Mexico had always belonged to us, and while there would likely be collateral civilian deathes, I'm sure we wouldn't intentionaly k**l civillians. I look forward to hearing from me. I doubt you'll change my mine, but maybe.

Putin showed no appetite for invading other countries before he was pushed into it by Western meddling, especially in 2014. The US, instead, has a long history of military actions and invasions of sovereign countries. Where is the outrage about that?

2 million civilian deaths in Vietnam, and 430,000 civilian deaths in US military operations since 9/11, just to put things into perspective.

What do you thimk (or feel) should be happening?

From the beginning, I feel NATO should have honored their 1994 pledge not to move "an inch" eastward. Putin made it clear early on that Ukranian membership in NATO was a red line for Russia, and Ukraine could have traded with and had ties to Europe and the West without a military alliance with the West.

Consider turning it around, and Mexico announces that they are joining a defense alliance with China and will allow Chinese missiles and military hardware on the Mexico/US border. Think back to the Cuban Missile Crisis, and remember the Monroe Doctrine. Is there any doubt the US would not go to war to protect its borders and sovereignty?

Unfortunately this is not far from the t***h. NATO is using Ukraine in a proxy war to weaken Russia. No NATO soldiers are dying, only Ukrainians, using weapons sold to them by the US, enriching US arms manufacturers while allowing them to offload old weaponry.

I personally always disclose if I have modified the image, because a photograph is generally presumed (in my world) to be an accurate representation of reality unless stated otherwise, in which case I look at it differently. We are mostly all on board about disclosing if an image is AI generated, so why not disclose if major modifications are made to an image that appears to be a photograph? Otherwise, I consider it "cheating".

But wouldnt the actual pixel density be about equal in such a comparison as those two cameras ?

I'm trying to picture it-correct me if I'm wrong-but it seems to me that it's not only pixel density but sensor size that determines resolution.

Here is an example that I could look up fairly easily.

Same lens...same system.

Nikon 105mm placed on crop body...sharpness is illustrated.

Then the FF chart...note the difference in sharpness.

Very few free lunches in engineering.

That is not strictly comparable due to the different sensors. The lens will resolve more lp/mm on a 36MP sensor than a 24MP sensor or whatever the D7000 is.

With the speedbooster you do get a wider angle of view and more light intensity on the sensor. Yes you do gain f stop. But as far as sharpness I don't know but I think it won't be as sharp because there are additional optics in the speedbooster.

If you get a high quality speedbooster the quality is basically indistinguishable from lens on FF.
