No, that would be incredible. Wonderful place for scenic shots! Are you thinking of joining?

I'm not but if you search for Badlands I would imagine you can find out all about it. Someone that lives in the area started the idea. People have already made reservations nearby. I saw the initial conversation and it was open to anyone interested.

Otherwise, I tend to think after a couple of pictures of the homes they all look alike. It is a great place to shop, especially at Christmas!

Well, it is good to know what to expect. But I think overall I have lower expectations and I'm still in the learning stages. Have you caught up with the discussion regarding the UHH meeting in the Badlands area in May.

I do not take pictures of the Amish. Never, ever. They would never go out of their way to stop you if you are caught trying, from far enough away. But if someone does not want their picture taken, then I don't. They are patients of mine in two different communities and I respect their wishes.

I didn't know that. I don't take pictures of people anyway, I was thinking of the buildings and gardens at the Amana Colonies. But if that is the way it is, I would not even want to take a camera near there. Sounds uncomfortable to me.

Barn quilt trail sounds interesting, especially if arranged ahead of time.

Here is a link to Living History Farms Photography day they hold every September. Workshops and lots of things. They have it every year in September. Not expensive.

I am in central Iowa and I guess you can call me a fair weather shooter. April on works best for me. And I think the first meet up should be where there is something for everyone. Birds, buildings, and landscape, etc. There are so many places that would work. The Amana Colonies sounded interesting to me. Living History Farms in Des Moines is always good and kind of different and there are other places nearby.....like the Ledges State Park.

Don't know what happened to my last message but I suggested mycountyparks.com to look some of these places up.

Okay my thought. What about March and a place that has streams and maybe a waterfall? Nice bridges? March is blah and we can at least get something out of the month. Might be some birds migrating in.

Suggestions have been Chichaqua Bottoms in Polk County near Maxwell.

Backbone near Manchester.

Ledges State Park near Madrid in Polk County.

You can also check mycountyparks.com, then check by county. Chichaqua and Jester are in Polk County (which is central Iowa).

I'm not familiar with Chichaqua or Ledges.

Iowa Birder

Have you noticed the thread under Iowa Photographers. It was just started today in hopes that some of us from Iowa could eventually get together for a shoot. Also check out the other new person. Her thread is under the new person section and says "Howdy Iowa"

Even Jester Park has a nice bird blind and wild life area :) and a pelican festival in the spring (I think it was springÂ…mighta been fallÂ…)

And don't forget buffalo at Jester. The only time I was there for the pelican festival, they were all far out but I did go to the river and was able to get closer.

For central Iowa, Ledges State Park is a good one. One of the professionals from Ames, Iowa holds a class there every year. Of course Living History Farms is good, and Madison County for the covered bridges. And the Prairie Reserve around Prairie City is nice in spring and summer.

I've started a thread entitled "Iowa PhotographersÂ….."

I like the idea of better weather considering what we are fighting right now. I'll drive quite a distance for some fun shooting.

That sounds good. That way we won't miss anyone,

I am middle of state but willing to go any direction (as long as the weather is decent). I don't care what I shoot but lean towards old buildings/barns/country churches/landscapes. Anyone want to PM me I will make a list and exchange e-mails and pass them on to all that want to be involved. I think April or May would be good.

Might be enjoyable some time to plan a photo shoot for the Iowa UHH bunch!! Maybe somewhere in the central part of the state??

Lots of interesting things to see and photograph in that general area!

If anyone else is interested, I am up for it.

Hi and welcome to the UHH from another Iowan. I see you like to shoot birds. I am not there yet but have been chasing a couple cardinals around my yard in the hopes of getting a good picture. Putting a bird feeder out today to attract them, and improve my photography at the same time. Don't miss out on the "birds in flight" section of UHH. Lots of good advice and help on this site.
