Trying to get some Iowa photographers together for a meet, greet, shoot weekend.

We need subjects, locations, ideas for dates. Join in!

I'm a scenery and bird person myself and live in the Iowa City area. Right now there are eagles nearby, round barns, and old barns.

I agree, different areas and different seasons would be great!

Anybody got an idea for spring? Maybe a park with a spring through it. Do river shoots in the spring with the snow melt running through? (I'm just throwing out ideas, not dictating..)
Neat bridges. Still some covered bridges around. I'll look up a few.

For central Iowa, Ledges State Park is a good one. One of the professionals from Ames, Iowa holds a class there every year. Of course Living History Farms is good, and Madison County for the covered bridges. And the Prairie Reserve around Prairie City is nice in spring and summer.

All places I've never been. Good place to start!

Chichaqua Bottoms is a cool place, I went there for a winter festival a few years back, I don't know if they still do it but they had dog sleds, ice fishing, and all sorts of stuff. We spent most of our time cross country skiing. I have also canoed out there in the summer.

And don't forget buffalo at Jester. The only time I was there for the pelican festival, they were all far out but I did go to the river and was able to get closer.

I have not heard of this one either or Backbone. I also love old barns, silos, farmsteads. There is an area on the western part of Iowa that might be interesting called Loess Hills. Not sure I spelled that correctly. I haven't been there. However, it sounds like it could be pretty in the spring.

I am also into old gas stations and towns with really old buildings.

Coralville Reservoir has a great place at the spillway for the pelicans when they are in. You can get great close up shots.

Also, there is another thread of this topic in the Introduction area titled Howdy from Iowa. This may not be as active of an area since not as many people follow this thread due to the political rantings.
