Dennis, your comment about not having nor wanting Photoshop sounds incredibly ill informed, kind of like those who repeat the adage that Ansel Adams didn’t have it, so his photos are more ‘pure’ or something. All the digital tools are best used to optimize an image, and you agree, as do I, that this image is quite a ways away from being optimized. Photoshop will never make a good photographer out of a less good photographer, or a great image out of a mediocre one, but it gives every guy with a camera a chance to show their best with what they got.
You should get a ‘photo of the day’ award. This photo just gave me the idea for my first ‘implied’ shoot with a new model. Outstanding!!!
Hi Mangles, if you were to shoot this again, would you consider adding a slight fill to lighten or minimize the shadow a bit on her camera left side to de-emphasize the pooching abdomen just a bit. Since I am totally inexperienced with nude photography and wanting to try my hand at it, I may be asking a very stupid question, but it’s not intended to be that, I’m just wondering if that is a possible solution that would work in this case?
Rob, I’d like to ask a serious workflow question about Courtney 2 . . . The pose she is in, combined with her figure and camera angle all conspire to make, in this particular pose, her look more ‘stout’ or stocky or more ‘chunky’ (or whatever the right word is) than is optimal. Have you ever tried to change the size of the image, or stretch it, just a little, like if it was 8 x 10 originally, stretch it to 9 x 10, or 9 1/2 x 10 to see the effect.
Your work continually amazes . . . and, of course, I still want to be you when I grow up!
Beautiful, well done photo. Wow!
Teriffic photo and model.
About 5 years ago I had the delightful opportunity to spend 4 days with Bobby Deal along with 3 other Uglies at his Las Vegas studio and bountifully received of his generosity, knowledge and kindness which he gave to us all liberally and generously. He is a talented and dedicated professional with an unusual ability to teach the art of photography. My understanding is that Bobby moved to the general Denver area and has been dealing with some fairly serious health issues, I’m unsure specifically of what the issues are or were. Bobby taught with every one of his posts, he loved teaching and it showed and I miss seeing his work and benefitting from his knowledge and experience. Personally, although his photographic skill level could easily be compared to the best in the business, he was a humble, genuine and sincere individual, and like us all, he had his fair share of demons, I suspect, along with an interesting and checkered past.
