I can't seem to find an adapter to put the smaller, newer Olympus 4/3 lenses on the older Oly E 410 DSLR.
Also, a "C" mount and M42 mount to the E 410.

I see mounts for Canon, Minolta and OM to the E-410, but not the others.

Any pointers?

I'm pretty sure that won't work. You can use 4/3 lenses on an M4/3 but you can't use an M4/3 lens on an old 4/3 camera like the 410. You'd best shop for used versions of some of the fabulous old Oly 4/3 lenses that you can pick up cheap. I got a 50-200 for very little at Keh, still my favorite lens.

Yikes, I missed that! Thanks for correcting.

However I expect at sometime a update to either my macOS or post processing software will break it.

It is unfortunate Topaz killed it. The Topaz Facebook group has most of its posts being images developed with Studio. Since I have other apps that do what their current apps as well or better I made a decision to not renew my Sharpen AI, DeNoise AI, or Gigapixel AI apps. I am looking for a Mac solution to replace Studio.

I'm using Impresso Pro, got it super cheap during a recent sale. I don't like it as well as Studio but I'm not proficient with it yet either, so I may come to like it over time.

I am currently using Mac Big Sur 11.7.2 as my operating system. I really like the features of Topaz Studio Two, but unfortunately Topaz is no longer supporting this plug-in. I extensively use the Precision Contrast, AI clear, and other features of Studio Two that are no longer provided by Topaz in their current product line up.

My question is does anyone have any information as to whether or not Topaz Studio Two will continue to operate under an upgraded macOS, specifically Monterey or Ventura? I would like to upgrade the OS but if it would cause Studio Two fail to operate then I will keep Big Sur as my OS. Any assistance or experience with this would really be appreciated.

I did go on the Topaz website and they do say Studio Two is compatible with both of those upgrades – however I would like some personal experience from a real time user if possible. Thank you.

I am on Monterey OS and Studio 2 works well as a standalone, or when accessed via Lightroom Classic (latest version). I have not been able to access it as a plug in to Photoshop.

I'll echo what another user mentioned, that the EM1, while a great camera, lacks many of the modern improvements that have been added in the last 3 iterations of that original model. Sounds like it is new to you, and if you haven't done so, do download the instruction manual as there is nothing instinctive about Oly menus. You may want to also invest in an e-book that presents the same information in a more practical manner. There are several good ones available.

I had this camera until the vii came out, and am now on viii, so I don't remember all I once knew about the vi. And I never used a non Olympus flash, so there may be issues in how the camera and flash talk to each other that you'll have to learn. I'd suggest you be sure the AF illuminater is on in such situations as you describe. But turn it off when you don't need it because it is so annoying. For my part, I'd probably just jack up the ISO, enable all the MF assist gadgets and leave the flash alone. But I'm not fond of flash anyway, that's just a personal quirk.

Here's a cheat sheet for flash with the OM series http://www.ayton.id.au/wiki/doku.php?id=omd:flash_ttl that may help some. You might want to ask this question on one of the m43 forums or on the Oly sections of DPR too.

Hi Everyone ..
Yesterday I used my OMD EM1 mk1 for the first time in an indoor setting .
Was in a night club/ dance floor .. quite dark .
Attached was the Goddox flash for this camera .

Issues I had were .
Autofocus was very poor and sluggish at times ( though not always )
Lots of shutter lag .. after pre auto focus on pressing the shutter
it could be 2 seconds before it fired !

Looking through the viewfinder , the coulours were not the same as
with the eye .

I tried ISO 100 then 800 with same shutter lag
this is on various modes .. A / S / Aperateur / manual ..

this was all vry dissapointing and am starting to think
this model is not the ' Pro ' it's made out to be ..

Any help ?
Cheers

One more question about Backblaze: I have an external disk drive where my photos are stored. I connect that drive to two different computers depending on where I am, including a MacBook Pro when I travel. Can I backup that external drive from any of my computers? I understand Backblaze is not a file sharing mechanism, which is fine, but I want to be sure I can execute a backup on that external drive from wherever I am and whatever computer it’s attached to.

I have not tried to do that, but I would suspect that you'd have to have a backblaze plan for 2 computers to make it work, as backblaze recognizes the external drive THROUGH the enrolled computer rather than as a separate entity. You could email them that question and get a precise answer. I found they answer pretty quickly.

Maybe someone else here has more info than I do.

How much data can be uploaded per month on backblaze?

Backblaze imposes no limits on upload or download. The limits are imposed by your internet service. Many internet service providers have some limits on upload even if you have "unlimited" download. That's why it takes longer to get everything "in" when you first start using an online/cloud backup. Once you get everything "in", updating takes only minutes and you can set it up to do it automatically or at your command. There are some preferences you can set in backblaze to help your initial upload go faster

I have a 2014 27" iMac which I have really enjoyed. With 8 years on it now it has begun to slow and have issues with the newest software and larger file sizes. Like many iMac users I've been disappointed that Apple, though they replaced their 21" iMac with a 24" iMac, that they have for now discontinued their 27" models with no alternative with now comparable alternative.

At first I looked at the now near 2 year old 24" M1 iMac. Then Apple announces the new Studio iMac series. With significantly upgraded M1 chips I've been thinking that the better (though more expensive approach than a 24" iMac) would be to purchase a Studio iMac M1 Max with 32G Ram and 1 TB hard drive. This requires purchasing a monitor separately. Over all a big investment that hopefully will again serve me 7-8 years. I cannot afford the companion Apple monitor so I am looking at BENQ 24 or 27" instead.

Has anyone taken this or similar approach and if so what has been your experience.

I faced this dilemma with my beloved 2011 Mac mini. I share your disappointment that iMacs and Mac minis were not offered with specs for photographers. Two weeks ago I bought a new Mac Studio with similar specs as you describe and I love it. I am for now using my old Apple Thunderbolt 27 " (perfect size for me, I can't do with less) Cinema Display (same vintage as my Mac mini) with a Thunderbolt adapter and it's working fine. One extra benefit to that old display is that it has an array of USB1 ports and old TB ports so I can use all my old peripherals without hubs or adapters. One day I'll have to upgrade the monitor but right now it's fine.

The mac specialist I talked to told me that Costco sells a monitor that internally is identical to the new mac monitor, for half the price. If I can find where I wrote the info about it, I'll add it later.

My Grand son (16yo) is visiting me for the holiday weekend. I got him into photography a few years ago by passing down my Canon 50D and a few lenses. He has has taken off like a rocket and is now even the official photographer for his high school. He is currently using a new(ish) but slow windows laptop to edit using his subscription to Light Room Classic and Photoshop. Last night I found a 2013 MacBook Pro that used to be mine several years ago and I cleaned it up and he tried to install his Lightroom Classic but was informed that the operating system -SIERA- was inadequate ( not surprising). Is there anything that we can do short of trashing this computer?

Update the OS to whatever OS the computer specs can handle, then try again to install Lightroom. You may not be able to get the most recent version of Lightroom to work but you should be able to get fairly close. You should be able to run a more current OS than Sierra, which is pretty old. As a subscriber, he has access to older versions of Lightroom if he has to back up a bit from the current iteration.

Have just purchased a Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV Camera with M Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm Lens and looking for a better option (other manufacture) for something in the 40-150 range than the M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm F/4-5.6 R ED. I have read that this lens is not the sharpest?? My budget is limited but willing to step up to possible the next level in lens. Any suggestions would be helpful.

This little 40-150 lens is much sharper than it has any right to be at its weight and price. I’m sure the more expensive lenses would be worth the money, but I grab this little one for hiking where I might meet birds, soccer games, etc. it has limitations with darker scenes, but will perform remarkably well in decent light. I love the small size and it adds no weight to your kit. I got mine free with my first EM5 years ago.

In that range I also have the venerable old Oly 50-200 2.8 with the old 4/3 mount and a 4/3 to m4/3 adapter. It is my favorite lens and I got it heavily used for next to nothing at keh. Very classy lens on the cheap. It is a big heavy thing by m 4/3 standards. But the new m43 pro lenses that length are fairly pricey, and also much much bigger than the 4.5-5.6.

Thanks, Linda for sharing this. I agree that a 52 project, whether self-administered or as a part of a formal group, is a great way to wade through periods of low motivation. As one of the mods for this particular 52 group, I know we’d welcome any of you. If you do apply for membership, please be sure to answer the 3 questions and make sure we can see a few of your pictures- it is how we weed out bots, fake people and other non serious contenders.

I believe that doing a 52 project is all that kept my camera from entering full and permanent retirement during the first year of Covid. My trips were all canceled and my favorite local spots were closed. Galleries weren’t doing shows, and festivals were canceled. It was a low ebb. And it is still hard to get back to where I was before. But having some structure to keep me going helped.

There’s a lot of info online about the challenges of using the updating software. Google is your friend here. When I ran into this problem myself, I turned to the mu43 and DPR m43 forums for answers and found what I needed to know, but the answer differs depending on your machine, your OS, your camera, and the iteration of the Olympus updater software. I remember that I had to tinker in an area of the permissions that I had never had to tinker in before. But eventually got it installed and it worked. I never use the Oly software for anything but updating and tethered shooting so I’m not adept at all with it. And I don’t apply every firmware update, only those offering something I really want or need. I have read that it’s possible and easier to update firmware via the phone interface but I have not tried it.

I’m about to invest in my next camera setup to replace my Canon T2i. I’m not attached to the lenses which are the old 17-55 and 55/250 kit lenses that probably came with it, older 1998? Tokina EF 80-400mm and also really old Tamron EF 70-200? Lens.

So it’s a new start. Check out my portfolio to see the types of photos I like to shoot: closeup flowers, landscape (prefer details), moon and astro, animals, birds, and wanting to do more portraits.

Do any of have the Olympus and lenses? Are you happy or do you wish you went with the new Canon R6 or other camera?

I have the Olympus EM 1 mk iii and I’m quite happy with it. I’ve used Oly m43 cameras since the first EM5. My walkabout lens is the 12-40 but I have an array of inexpensive lightweight lenses including a few primes that make up a diverse kit that seldom weighs more than 5 lbs fully loaded. There are excellent lenses in the top tier and decent affordable lenses all through the range. I thoroughly enjoy the tech tricks in the camera like hand held high resolution, pro capture and live time which are more than magic, easy night sky controls, focus stacking etc. my only gripe is that there’s more noise to contend with but a good noise management software solves much of that. My large prints are fine. I commonly print at 16x20 but sometimes larger. I suggest you handle any camera you want to buy before you commit to see how it fits in your hands and how natural the button array seems.

At 77, I suspect that the concept of the family album will disappear with my generation. The digital world is loaded with photos that are just a click away, so easy to do that children can do it, and easy to share. In the days of yore there was only one, maybe two family members who snapped away at birthdays and other events, making prints and storing them away for posterity. Now the ether is flooded with such images, take your pick.

I use print services like Shutterfly, Blurb, and Motif to create photo books every year - one for each grandchild on their birthday, one for each son/wife at Christmas and one for husband and me. I also do special albums for each trip we take, and for special occasions like weddings, or whatever strikes my fancy.. this year I did one about 15 years of Christmases in the family. These books are slim, easy to store, and I keep them accessible where we can grab one and thumb through it. There’s no way to “add to” these like the big old family album, but they serve a similar purpose.

Admittedly I do love the feel of the old albums. I still have my grandmother’s honeymoon album from 1908, my parents’ first album (bound in what was obviously once a brown and white cow), my own first album that came with my first brownie. But I’m glad to have hard copies of some of our favorite photos easily accessible in case no one cares to curate my digital collection once I’m gone.
