As I noted when moving from 35 mm to Medium Forman: “the more data, the better.”

Back in the days of film one of the best cameras I ever owned was a Yashica A twin lens reflex. Has any manufacturer ever produced a digital similarity?

I am not aware of any quality TLR digital cameras. Ninox makes a couple, but you wouldn’t like them at all. I have also used TLR film cameras and i adore them. In fact, I paid my way through undergraduate school with a Yashica 124 and a Rollei 2.8d.

Good digital alternatives may be found in Pentax 645Z or the large MP full frame 35s such as Nikon 850.

In my film days I always preferred medium format. That’s not really “necessary” with high megapixel count, full frame “35mm” cameras of today.

Get a grip. This is manic behavior. Appropriate to upgrade if your current camera doesn't
give you what you need . Otherwise,in the immortal words of Archie Bunker, "Stifle yourself."

I wish Icould. I really wish I could. But it’s too late for me. Save yourself!

I just put yet another camera on lay-a-way.

This will be my third in less than a year. Granted they are used and from the pawn shop, but still...

Help?! LOL (not really, but it sounds good.)

This is a close match with my C330 with three lenses, a grip and two prism finders. If I could only get a grip...

I have some old family photographs that I inherited from my mother. Some of these photos are more than one hundred years old. The photos are interesting as many are in the form of a postcard. The photos are a mixture of studio portraits, photos taken by family members, and, most interesting, photos taken of crews harvesting the fields in Nort Dakota using steam-powered tractors. As you can imagine, the photos are not always on photographic paper. They seem to be on cardboard similar to card stock. The card stock has grown soft over the years and soiled. How do I clean them? More importantly, should I clean them? I have scanned them into Photoshop and restored them as best as I can with the software. Any ideas?

I was a photographer in the Navy so long ago that my duty station was the old USS Noah’s Ark. My first job after leaving the Navy was photographer for the Kansas State Historical Society. A good part of my work there was duplication and restoration of old photographs and glass negatives. I believe you would do well to avoid “cleaning” original photographs. You can, very, very carefully use commercial cleaning fluids on old negs, but beware.

Backmin 1957 my copy gear was a Linhof 4X5 on a tripod. It worked very well on older, yellowed or sepia prints and on daguerrotypes or tintypes, but not so well on more modern photos. Correct contrast was extremely difficult to achieve with such originals. I would have given anything for modern digital scanning and computer based software.

You may wish to consult professional lens reviews to settle this issue. My personal opinion is that there is not enough difference in quality to justify the expense.

Among the UHH members who started out using manual mode either by choice or because that was the only mode that was available at the time. How long did it take you to learn how to use it?
Among those who started out with one of the auto mode (full Auto, P, A or S) how long did it take you to learn how to use the camera in manual?
I am not Chris T but I can still ask survey question can I?

My first camera was a 620, Kodak, Box Brownie. No problem learning to use it.

I’M 81 and not very steady on my pins. I haven’t gone on a photo safari for five years. I miss it. I partially compensate by reading all of the photo blogs I can.

I was thinking about getting a KIEV 88, but after seeing this post I realize a Holga - ANY Holga - is far superior.

Rollie and Nikon helped kick the props out from under the Speed Graphic - the ubiquitous “standard” camera of news photogs and the curse of Navy photographers everywhere.

Anybody use a macro lens for Portraits? Heard maybe they have great detail and sharpness, in my sights is the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro Lens , shooting with 80D, yes I realize focal length is different on crop sensor, FF next investment, opinions please and thank you

I know some pros who like to use a macro for portraits of men - but not for women. They especially like a macro for senior portraits of boys.
