I will be visiting the British Wildlife Centre on Friday and, because I will be taking 3 young grandchildren along as well as my Canon 7D, I am planning to take just one lens to make things simpler. I am torn between my Canon 70-200 f2.8 L Mk II and my Sigma 150-50mm lens. Any advice would be welcome as I am relatively new to DSLR photography. Many thanks!

We are entering a new age where smaller, cheaper super cameras are quickly coming of age. Right now, I am looking at the Canon Powershot SX50HS -- 28mm - 1000mm! and the Lumix DMC FZ200 -- 28 -- 600mm...
Many features are similar to DSLRs, but as of yet do not surpase a DSLR -- yet.... But they take great pics and let's face it, how many of us are shooting for Nat Geo? Not me.
AND, I can get great wildlife pics without lugging around a ton of heavy bulky lenses. Mark my words, these cameras will replace the bulky DSLRs like todays cell phone replaced the bulky brick phone.

I had to know what this lens looks like-Here's a link to the800mm. Close enough. http://www.settrade.com/brokerpage/IPO/webboardUpload/pic/reply281350.jpg

The lens to the left is the Canon 800mm F5.6.
The lens to the right is the Sigma 200-500mm F2.8 (the worlds ONLY 500mm F2.8) and it is being used there with the matched 2x teleconverter which make that lens into a 400-1000mm F5.6 lens, for only $26,000 bucks NEW!

We are now in an age where lenses and cameras are getting smaller and smaller. I mentioned eariler the Canon Powershot SX50hs, also there is the Lumix DMC FZ200 w/ up to 600mmm and others. Yes, today they fall a little short of DSLRs but soon... soon...

Hi, I just watched an episode of Art Wolfe's "Travels to the Edge" and he was photographing grizzly bears in Alaska. He rarely tells what gear he is using but tonight he said he was using a 1000mm Canon. Since Canon is one of his sponsors I'm sure it was a Canon but I can't find it listed, and I'd like to know what it costs. Does anyone know about this lens?

As part of its regular lineup, Canon makes an 800mm f/5.6 IS USM at a cost of $13,000+. It also a custom 1200mm f/5.6L EF USM for about $120,000. I am sure that Art Wolfe could easily have a 1000mm lens custom made by Canon. It would cost (get ready for some brilliant deduction) between $13,000 and &120,000. And no, I don't think he is using a 1000mm mirror lens. On the other hand, he could be using a 500mm f/4L IS II USM (a mere $10500 just for the lens) with a custom 2X teleconverter.

You can also get 1200mm with the Canon Powershot SX50HS for less than $500!

Heard that one. So we want to tell jokes, cool. What's the difference between kinky and perverted? Kinky you use a feather, perverted you use the whole chicken. Now can we get back to the topic? How do we make money as photographers?

Why not Google "making money with photography"....
Basically, you need to have top pro equipment and computer software, take amazing pictures... submit to a wide variety of Photo Stock places and get paid over and over for that cute kid, kitten or puppy...

Was this a hay rake? Found this (re-painted) outside a machine shop on the edge of town.

Thanks in advance for the help in identifying it! I used this shot for "Red" week in the work contest.

Looks like a nicely restored farm tool set up for an okay shot!
