That's certainly a great capture , did you see the other ones along the way ? There were several more that I saw when I was there about 5 years ago. One of them was a small ocean liner that was used for target practice, and another was hard aground on a rock in the middle of the chanell , it looked like it was moving along when we were approaching it, and it wasn't until we were almost along side of it, that we realised it was the illusion of the waves breaking along the side that gave it the appearance of movement!

Thanks everyone for the input and it looks like I will be giving the notion of a Mk4 a lot of consideration

Voltage is not a problem as all newer electronic chargers are multi voltage and all I need are the adaptors for the different pin configerations of the outlets when power is available at least USB outlets are standard

Floyd I am Australian and all plugs outlets are different to ours :-)

Hi All,
well heading off to Africa in June for 3 months and trying to debate which to add
At present have a 5Dmkiii with all associated L series Lens etc etc
The 5D is 5 years old now but has had a refurb 18 months ago and is performing admirably (new main Bd new screens and a complete clean and software upgrade)
Was considering going Mirrorless but the current Canon R is about to be replaced and will not be here before I leave, so I am considering getting the 5DMkiv as a second camera
This should enable me to use current lenses etc as well as same battery which is a major consideration owing to where I am travelling to (hardly and internet and power will be on a sporadic availability)

Do you think that this is the right way to go :-)

Have been using a similar set up for 4 years and 3 extended and rough trips and have not had a single problem
Canon 5dmkiii and customslr bracket and strap
Highly recommend their setup
Camera plate fixes to tripod fixing on camera but also fits across base of camera and added feature is that same bracket fits Manfrotto quick release or Swiss arca clamps without changing anything
By the way Antarctica is just simply amazing!!! If you are staying in Uschuia make s ure you get out and about ,there is so much to see and photograph in Chile and Argentina

I use a key tag attached to the draw cord ( canon l series) details are lens and f stop with filter size e.g. 72 or 78 mm thread also colour code tags e.g. green for wide angle, red for prime ,yellow for macro etc
Makes it so easy when setting up bag for a day shoot or a trip just read the tags and pack appropriately

Simply stunning area ,my wife did the "w" walk 2 year xxx ago and said it was absolutely one of the best walks in the world , it takes 3 days and is quite challenging, I only made it to the beginning of the trail ☹

Much the same here ,when I call a service provider a.nd I get an overseas operator I now ask politely for an australian operator as I cannot understand them and they definitely can't understand me (have been caught out a few times when the operator is in Melbourne and then describes the weather to prove they are in fact in OZ 😉

A very enjoyable set, Bob! Thank you for sharing these beautiful landscapes. Nice capture of the heron.

Thanks for that, the bird is a Jabari, stands approximately 3 feet they dance quite spectacularly and our indigenous people have quite an interpretation of that in their ceremonies
