Assuming he's using a 100mm lens (I thought he was) and just assuming that he's 36" away, and his aperture is f/2.8 he gets at DOF of 1/2". Certainly not enough for both eyes to be in focus.


BUT....

By using f/5.6 (only 2 stops) and backing away to 60" he gets a DOF of 2.9 in". That seems like it would do it.
