Modrona Marsh is best in Spring, when the rains swell the vernal pools, and spawn frogs, dragonflies, lots of native & migratory birds. Late Summer has far fewer insects, and SoCal heat makes them skittish.

I suggest that you re-post in the section Birds In Flight / Birds On Water, and post camera settings for each image: ISO, shutter duration, & aperture, as well as lens used.
