I agree with the others who found the images very acceptable. The colors seem quite realistic, rather than artificially saturated (for artistic rendering).

That is true, I thought the OP might be trying to get at a deeper question ... like my 1st grade teacher always said "Read the question." 😊

This might sound argumentative, but, truly, it is not meant that way. I enter local club contests, and also contests for a 40-club contest in the mid-west, and sometimes PSA contests, with prints at 8x10. Are some of you saying that using a Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G phone well, that images will do as well in IQ as using a decent 35mm camera? I have accomplished that with some macro images, but have not been able to with landscape images. It may be that my technique with the cell phone is still lacking ... only recently have started trying to use it for competitions. If I can produce that quality with the phone, I would like to demonstrate it for the club because I think quite a few of the folks would enjoy seeing that they can have fun in the competitions without putting out the funds for camera gear. I judge contests for these clubs, and have done the same for a State Fair .... I am interested in getting my phone images IQ good enough to compete with primarily to tempt more folks to compete for sun with their phones.

I agree with Longshadow's comment, just sharing my thoughts as I happened to be asking the same question for myself recently. I have wanted to get my own sense of when I can get away with using my phone on hikes, or my Sony bridge camera, or my Nikon with various lenses ... at 76, with bad knees, looking to reduce the load when more gear not needed.

I would think it depends on the quality of photographer's technique with the phone camera, how challenging the situation was, and how much cropping needed, etc. I know that is a bit wishy-washy, but would drive my choice if I was carrying both types of equipment.

Modern phones do quite nice in general situations, but, at least from what I have seen, are not able to compete (yet) in more complex visual situations ... such as focusing on a bird amongst branches, capturing moving subjects, dealing with extreme dynamic range, ...

I use an Android S21 ultra, and took fairly careful landscape Fall color shots this past week, along with photos using a Nikon with a decent 24-70 f2.8 lens. The phone images came out quite nice for sharing online, but I think I will see the difference, even at 8x10, if I compare it to my Nikon shots with a quality wide angle lens. I have compared on my monitor because I have same question ... and certainly can tell the images apart (not a very scientificly controlled comparison ).

So, this is just a personal observation, since I am looking at where I feel comfortable with using my phone rather than my camera gear.

I am sure vibration compensation in the camera helped.

Thanks for comments. Have watched UHH for a few years while I got into photography after retirement ... finally getting images fun to share.

...and now that I posted this image I see that it is more appropriate for the sub-topic "Birds." Next time.

We do not get Blue Jays real often near our home in northern Minnesota, and I enjoyed his colors against the fall leaves. I took the image with a Sony RX10 IV bridge camera at about 500mm (35mm equivalent). This is my first try at a post, so fingers crossed I did it correctly.😊

In that situation might try matrix metering, and expose to the right (lots of online videos about exposing to the right), and a lower ISO if you have that option. Challenging dynamic range for an active scene.

Nice capture ... it's wonderful when photographic elements fall into our path when we have a camera with us.

The debates of quality of specific attributes of Sony vs Cannon vs Nikon seem to be a favorite pasttime here. I can only read these with curiosity, but cannot afford to test things out for myself. I am in a camera club with folks sporting all sorts of equipment and all having a good time with whatever they have. I have only recently begun using the Z9 with a variety of the Z and S lenses and am amazed at what we, as amateur photographers, can accomplish with the new technology. As a 76 year old moving from a simpler bridge camera (Sony RX10 IV), to the tech level of the Nikon Z9, I will just enjoy my new fun, and watch/listen in amazement at what delightful things I could do if I just changed systems, or bought the new Nikon Z 100-400mm f2.8 for $13,000, or new Z 800mm for around $6k. As a retired forester on a fixed income, cannot play in those realms, but sure am having a great time with my clunky Z9.

What is interesting about the "rule of thirds", for me, is why it often/sometimes aids in enhancing a compositiom. I find it useful in at least considering it when composing, without ever thinking of it as "required", and not truly understanding why it helps compositions some of the time.
On a different tact, the fact that bringing up the topic often seems to result in debate, over how to phrase the use of this concept, might be a suitable topic in some psychological forum.

Hello, I am an enthusiastic amateur who has been following this site for about 10 years. Got into digital photography around 2005 when I retired. Nikon user ... started with Nikon DX1 and now waiting for the Z9. Long fun journey.
