My suggestion is ... get the D5100 and 18-55 + 55-300 Nikon kit and add the Nikon 40mm f/2.8G AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR Lens Lens, for only $279.00

I know nothing about filters, except that the UV filter is just used by many to protect their expensive lenses. I just bought and received a Nikon/Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6G AF lens for $85.00 off of eBay. Took it out this morning and shot this sunrise photo with it. Am wondering what filter do I need to use to get rid of the "halo" around the sun. Or is it something else like f/ or speed or ISO even.

Hello

The best thing I came up with was to shoot the sunset real low on the horizon f8 ISO 100 SS 250 to 500sec. and a tripod

This is a sunset I took this evening when it was much lower on the horizon.

Call me an old fuddy if you like but as this forum is open to all, if I was an Arab or a muslim I would be offended by this. I know PC can sometimes go too far but to target anyone's faith as something to use in jest is a big "No NO" in my book. This is not the way to build bridges between ourselves and our neighbours.

OK! You're an "old fuddy." Political correctness is over-rated and over-used. But you're allowed to say whatever you care too, just as anyone else is. Freedom of speech isn't over rated. :)

Try giving a young cash register clerk $19.04 to pay for something that costs $9.94 and watch them try to figure out how much to give you back if their cash register doesn't figure it out for them.

You got that right. About a week ago I bought somthing for $9.25. I gave the girl a $10. dollar bill and a quater. She hit the $10 on her regster and not the quater and wanted to give me a dollar change. I told her she only owed me .75cents. For the life of her she couldnt get it strait in her head.

There was a nun when I was in the 4th grade in parochial school. Tell another student to go get a bottle of "elbow grease" As he was erasing the blackboards slower than she thought it should take.

OK! I'll call on Lex Luthor and see what he can do about that! I'm sure he's working on something along that line.

As stated before the Nikon D3100 would be the best choice, (price & quality wise) it's what I got to start with, exactly one year ago tomorrow. Loved it the entire time! With the 18-55mm and the 55-300mm lenses it is hard to beat.

Schools are constantly being told what to teach. And how to teach it.
1.) By the local school boards.
2.) By the State Board of Education.
3.) By the U.S. Education Department.

I went to private schools my entire academic career, K-8th grade at a private Catholic elementary school. Nowhere in that curriculum was the bible taught to anyone. All we did was go to church service every Wednesday morning, and practice for our First Communion (in the 1st grade) and our Confirmation.(in the 4th grade)
For grades 9-12 I went to a private Episcopalian High School, because my parents thought it was much better than the local Catholic High School.
And I then went to the United States Military Academy, where I was trained for my 25 year Army career, and also received (what I consider)a great education, with a Bachelor of Science degree. Didn't cost me or my family a single red cent, except for the mandatory 6 year service requirement.

I have been involved in 4 major military operations in my 25 year career, in two of which I earned a purple heart:
Operation Urgent Fury - The invasion of Grenada, 1983
Operation Just Cause - The Invasion of Panama, 1989
Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm - The pre-invasion and invasion of Iraq, 1990/1991
Operation Enduring Freedom - The invasion of Afghanistan, 2001
I don't believe anything could make "war" more appealing to me, no matter how they fed it to me.

Jay Leno takes his Tonite show out on the streets every now and then. He asks people walking by, very simple history/geography and just common sense questions. It truly amazes me how many wrong answer's he gets. In fact you would think that all the people that he talks to are actors in on the gag, but I don't believe that's the case. In general people are just that dumb and uncaring.

LOL, I was actually sitting down, when I took this photo. With legs as bad as mine "standing is over rated" LOL!
Yes you can get a sunset photo off of my dock (the above were of today's sunrise)just not yet, as the sun is still a little to far north. From January-July you can get a sunset photo for sure!
