Oh yes, that makes sense..........thanks

I also have the WD wireless external drive with the sad slot.
We are traveling in a few weeks time. I've always taken my laptop to back up the day's shooting but this time I'm only taking the WDDrive. I will back up the card to the external drive and keep the originals on the card. I have 2 32GB cards which will each hold, I believe, approximately 750 Raw file photos.
I am always nervous, especially traveling, of only having one record. My WD drive is 1 TB which is obviously more than sufficient.

Again, thanks for the lead: I did the search within this site and indeed it has been discussed and reviewed extensively. Now I will finish my research in Hedgehog and then probably buy!

This has been discussed before a few times so for more information you could do a search and have plenty to read. Good luck. It looks like a good option.

Thanks! A friend told me about it yesterday and I have since done a lot of research online including dpreview.com.
Now I thought I would get the opinion of the Hogs out there.

Has anyone had any experience with this new MAC only competitor to Photoshop? The beta version came out early this year and now the final App is available in the Apple App Store for $50. This is supposedly a program at the professional level. Serif Affinity.

I just bought my second three weeks ago: my first got damaged beyond repair.
I bought it thru Amazon. Had the silver & black but now have all black. Love it and have been using it for a year now. Even had a photo enlarged to 20 x 30 and put on canvas. I use it more often than my Canon 6D which I will never give up!
But the GX7 is so easy when out and about and I carry it and 3 lens in a little 3 lb bag with shoulder strap.

I just returned a B&H item 2 weeks ago. I had called them while the shipment was en route. I also emailed UPS that my signature was required on delivery. When I returned home after outside errands there was the box on my doorstep. I took it unopened to the closest UPS office, explained the situation, and they put the return address on it and returned it free of charge. I also notified B&H customer service by phone and email. I tracked the shipment. It was delivered to Brooklyn, NY and 3 days later my credit card was credited.

I forgot to mention that we wanted to hike between a couple of the Villages but the lower trails were closed because of rock slides from all the spring rain last year, 2013. Even in Italy these trails should be open now!

We were at Cinque Terre last year beginning of July for 2 1/2 days at the end of an Italian vacation in Tuscany. We stayed at a lovely hotel in La Spezia, the small city just south of the 5 villages but linked to them by the train which runs on at least the hour if I remember. The first afternoon at 1pm we took the train up to Monterosso and then back to Vernzza and Corniglia where had dinner on a terrace restaurant looking sout to Manarola with the sun setting. I have a 20 x 30 photo canvas of Manarola on my wall and as a screen saver!. From Vernazza we took the train back to La Spezia and our hotel, Hotel Nella, really delightful. The second day we bought another day's train ticket and went back up to Monterroso but this time walked south through the village to the boat tour. You must do this as it stops at each village but also gives you a real view and perspective of Cinque Terra.
Obviously I had my Canon with my Canon EF 24-105 f4 lens which was very sufficient. I notice now that the photos taken from the boat were all ISO 100 and very sharp. It is an IS lens. Yes, I could have used my Tamron 70-300 but I didn't as I wanted the flexibility of the 24-105 which can in very handy in the streets.
BTW, the sea was quite calm!
Good travels!

I bought myself a birthday present last July: a Panasonic LUMIX GX7. I have used my Canon6D twice since then! With the GX7 I have the kit 14-42 zoom, a LUMIX 45-200, and a Prime Olympus 25mm f1.8. The camera is mirroless and therefore the lenses are equal to 35mm: 28-84, 90-400, and 50mm. Go to dpreview and read their review and user comments and also Amazon user reviews. The latter is where I bought my equipment.
I also purchased a shoulder camera bag measuring 9" long, 6" high, 5" wide.it carries all of the above plus 2 extra batteries, a small flash and extra cards.
Important, the camera has an EVF that tilts upward and also a touch screen LCD that tilts up and down. It shoots JPEG and Raw which I use always.
Lastly, I have 2 20" x 30" prints already hanging on my walls amongst other taken by my Canon 6D which I will never let go. However, the GX7 is so easy to use and light to carry compared to the backpack for the Canon. I plan to use the small one for all hiking and general walking around. Lastly it has more adjustments on it in its software that my Canon has!

Finally, quite a bit into the discussion, a Hog suggested looking for a refurbished or used Apple! I switched to an Apple MacBook Pro 15" laptop about 5 years ago specifically because of my photography. Most graphic artists or others in a similar trade use Apple products because of the Screen Resolution and also as important the ease of use. My 15" is more than adequate although I did add more memory about 2 years ago. I have about 23,000 photos on the hard drive but I have recently exported the originals to a 2TB Seagate external drive. They are also backed up again to two other ext. drives, one being kept outside the house. I always shoot in Raw so the files are quite large: but only 250 GB's of the 2TB drive are used so far.
As to software, I used to use Photoshop but have downgraded to Photoshop Elements 12 which is enough for me now. I rely mostly on the Apple Aperture software which has been excellent. However Apple is now selling this program any longer but replacing it and iPhoto with a new 'Photos' program early in 2015.
In closing, try to see an apple screen side by side to that of a PC. Apple does cost more but in my opinion the extra expense up front paid off almost immediately in the photo results.

I just did the same and noted the RAW converter update on one of my photos. However, I have not had time to discover other improvements. Can you perhaps list some that you have found.
BTW, I plan to stick with Aperture after the issuance of the new program....unless it proves to be a significant improvement.

As a result of a previous discussion on traveling with one's large bulky camera and therefore a suggestion to consider a compact one I did just that 3 months ago. I did a lot of research including Dpreview.com and other photo websites and consequently bought the Panasonic Lumix GX7. It is pricier than you want to spend but I did buy it, refurbished by Panasonic, for $800 through Amazon which also included many highly favorable reviews. This little gem appears to have more adjustments than my Canon 6D! It also has the tilt electronic viewfinder in addition to the back tilting LCD. In experimenting with it I also had large prints developed, 20 x 30, and they are, in my mind, exceptional. My learning curve is still there but gradually I am mastering this little gem. BTW, the LCD is a touch screen which makes it easier to make changes/ refinements to the shooting process. I also purchased the kit lenses, 14 - 45 f3.5 and then added the Olympus 50mm f1.8.
Bottom line, I couldn't be happier and at 70 life is great!

I'm not if the OP is thinking of the grip like on your GX7, or a battery grip for the 6D.

Sorry, I am somewhat confused by your reply: could you further explain please?
