B&H return options

I discovered that I had ordered a lens in the wrong mount. It should have been Nikon instead of Canon. It has yet to be delivered. The B&H rep told me I could return it two ways: Refuse acceptance of the UPS package or return the package with a return form he sent me. Either way I would be receiving a credit on my credit card.

Does anyone have any experience with these options and which is the preferred option?

I will be reordering the correct mount lens this week. I have been VERY happy with B&H with previous orders. I just have little experience in returning things.

Thanks,
Terry Sandlin

It might depend on when this credit will be applied. Refusing delivery may (and this is a big may) cost them less than using the pickup slip but it will be faster if you refuse delivery because it will get back to B&H sooner.

Don't be anxious. B&H will take care of you.

I have dealt with B&H for years and have had only one occasion where I returned an item and that was just recently. I had the item for about a week before I got around to taking it out of the box and examining it. I had an issue with the item and conveyed my concerns. They immediately emailed me a return label and asked if I wanted a refund or replacement. I took the replacement and as soon as they received my return the other one was on it's way to me. Absolutely great people to do business with. I wouldn't buy anywhere else. It would be much easier for you to take the delivery refusal option since you would not have to deal with returning the item yourself.

No question,if you don't want it, for whatever reason, they'll take it back. Figured out why: I didn't bad mouth them and I've spent a few more thousand dollars more with them. There is never an issue about about my after thoughts or inexperience. Apparently, they want me to be happy. Works for me. Other thing is that they have the best price and if you find it cheaper, they'll match it and upgrade their site. Done it. Loyal customer.

You pick. They have been absolutely first rate with returns. I, like maddawgg, have taken more than a few days to open a package from them.
If I were you, I'd go ahead and order the correct lens ASAP, even before you return the other. I have that much confidence in their prompt customer service. They are very, very good.

No brainer. Refuse delivery, and you're done with no hassle of running to a post office.

I had a bad experience by refusing an item one time with UPS because the contents were clearly broken during shipping. The merchandise never got back to the sender (not B&H) and it was one huge mess to get straightened out. I would use the return form they provided and drop it off at the nearest UPS Store. I am sure the other way may work fine for most, but my experience with refusal, not good. B&H writes the book on what great customer service should be like.

I deal with B&H almost exclusively. I have had occasion to return items to them and have never had an issue. When I do return things, even if I do what you did, by mistake, I would go into their site, request a return , get a label, take it to a UPS store or equivalent and pay the return shipping and receive a tracking number. I have never refused delivery, in fact, I would know how to do that because I am never home when they deliver. I feel better with a tracking number so I can tell when they received the package. I don't thing you would get that if you refused delivery. The price of shipping is worth it to me, of course I live on the east coast and usually get next day delivery.
Good luck.

I would just accept delivery and use their return shipping label.
That way you get a tracking #. I never had any problems with returns.

The problem with refusing delivery is that if it is UPS they retry to deliver it a second and possibly third time. Or they hold it for XX number of days for you to pick up before returning it to the sender.

If you return the object with their return authorization, you then know it is on the way to B&H and you will get the replacement sooner or your credit sooner. B&H credits your card pretty quickly but it can be 3-5 days for the $$ to reach your card. B&H is quick.

If you choose to accept it and return it, you will have to pay return insurance in the item. Depending on the cost of the item this can be expensive.

I have only ever returned one item for replacement to B&H and I did not have to pay the return shipping cost. Maybe it is different if you are returning something that you simply did not want.
