A very nice interesting set Phil, even it makes a spectacular sunset, lets hope that is the end of it.

Thanks very much Mike. As you know Sept and Oct are the critical months for the east bay hills. I'll be happy when we get some rains.

Stunning vistas and light, Phil. I'm happy to report that Yakima has been smoke-free for several days now

Thanks Linda! I'm happy to know you are getting a respite up there.

Clear day (for once), so I took the dogs for a walk with the trusty iPhone. The attached are the results of the golden hour hike.

A very attractive set Mike! Good to know you had a clear day and put it to good use.

A smoke filter is not something you can purchase at your local camera store. Folks living in the western states know the photographic effects of the smoky skies we have experienced in the past two years. These photos were taken form the East Bay hills looking west over the San Francisco Bay. The first shot of the sun setting over Mt Tamalpais was taken last Sept. during the Napa/Sonoma fires. The others were taken from the same POV in June of this year. They show the high smoke cloud moving in from the north as the fog rolls in to cover the bay. As the sun moved through the layers of smoke it changed the color of the fog and indeed the light itself! Beautiful, eerie and sad. Nothing was done in post processing to augment these colors.

Good photos of a very nice find Katy! I don't see them often, they sometimes hang around with coots. Yolo bypass?

These are from a local wetland preserve close to where I live. Comments and downloads are definitely encouraged.

Even it was tiring standing and walking for some hours for my old legs I enjoyed the show. To take pictures is difficult of the background and of course the IPhone explosion. As I said many times before there is no other flower that comes in so many sizes, colors and shapes, just look at the first picture which was at the entrance. To me all were fantastic and it must be hard for the judges to pick the winners. Btw. Dahlia is the official flower of San Francisco.

Beautiful set Mike, such wonderful variety. They are a favorite of mine as well! Glad to hear you got to the show. I know what you mean about time on our tired old legs. Take care my friend.

I took these photos at the Salton Sea.

This is a very enjoyable set! Terrific combo of subjects, wonderful light and an interesting sequence. Sandhills are so beautiful in the air, nice work! Where was this in the Salton Sea area?

For most cats, kittenhood is a time of fun and frolic, as they learn the skills they'll need to survive. But for a rare few, fun and frolic are pushed aside in order to begin a partnership with a Dark Lady, a life of command and fearless implacability in the face of danger, magic, and mayhem.

No mafioso ever wielded such power, and adequate warning of their presence must be given to bystanders, lest they fall prey to the depredations of such kittens. One bell is not enough.

It's not personal Randy, it's just business.

I love watching these amazing dogs work! Fantastic action shots, Phil! You've captured the drama!

When I watch them at work I believe I can see them one step ahead, physically and mentally, of the sheep. They are a joy to watch! Thank you for the kind comment Donna.

I guess I am not alone in my choice of #2 as the best of this series. I never knew sheep could be so aggressive. Great standoff.

Thanks Jan, I don't print much but #2 is a definite candidate. It was a cool moment... and then the sheep decided to be a sheep again!

They are currently found in my local wildlife area (Yolo Bypass). I have also seen them in nearby wetlands in the past. This group is about ten in number, always together. From what I have read, they are native to Africa and the Nile Valley. If they are trying to establish here, it seems to be a very slow process. Yet there are small groups in a bunch of states. They are known for doing crop damage but no one seems to know the actual threats, if any, to local wildlife. They seem to be getting along with the local water fowl. Interestingly, they are not geese or ducks but shelducks, a cross between the two. Have you seen them in your area?

Good photos of an interesting find Katy. I have only seen them in zoos, they very well might be escapees. I'll be looking for them.
