Have you had a chance to contact Adobe. I would like to complete this transaction, if possible, sooner than later. If you have changed your mind, please let me know so that I may look elsewhere. Thanks in advance.

I am sorry for not keeping in touch. I will take care of this next week and let you know the details.

Aside from storing them in a dry, dark and room temperature environment, nothing may matter. If these are color negatives, what matters is how they were washed. And too late to do anything about that now. Another factor is the age because the older the negative, the less stable the dyes. In other words, they will fade no matter what. I do not know if those special sleeves would even help for color. They may help for black and white whose images are silver salts.

Also important to the longevity of black and white negatives is how they were fixed. A single, partially depleted fixer will lead to stains. A two-bath fix with properly monitored silver content followed by thorough washing is ideal but, again, too late.

IMO that is a bad idea. There is far too much condensation in a fridge.

My shoe box has been in a dry and dark closet.

I agree because fungi can grow on them because of the moisture.

LR does not use ACR. Photoshop and Elements do. In LR, you remain in the world of RAW until you export the pictures as TIFF's or JPG's so the rest of the world can view your work or edit in another program such as NIK or PSE.

I believe the idea of DNG's was to incorporate the camera-specific profile into the file so you could use it elsewhere without the profile. Does not seem like a compelling advantage to me.

After you have imported the images into LR, any edits you do to the image, or EXIF data that you change/add (such as keywords) will be stored in a sidecar file. I believe it will have an XMP file extension....

No need to use the sidecar. The default setting is no sidecar. I presume the edits are stored the catalog.

People mention the advantages of dng's but except for size which is not crucial, what are the advantages?

Just be aware that Adobe is switching to a monthly subscription model. May be more expensive in the long run but my real fear is that if you stop subscribing, the software will not work. Does anyone know more about this?

To make this work from my perspective, it would be in the $120 range.

I can do it for that. Let me contact Adobe and I will get to you.

I seek to qualify for the $9.99/mo. Creative Cloud Photographer's package that Adobe is offering. Unfortunately, neither the CS 5 or CS 6 educational versions that I own qualify for that rate; so I am forced to pay $10/mo. more for a bunch of applications that I have no interest in or use for (Dream Weaver, etc.).
I am looking for a really modestly-priced (read: cheap) retail version of CS 3, and the willingness of the seller (who, presumably, has previously registered the product with Adobe) to spend the time necessary to transfer the license to me via Adobe customer service.
Thanks in advance.

I have some experience with sports including football. There is no simple and singular answer to the question. The only thing unique to sports is needing a high shutter speed if you want to freeze the action. Otherwise, all the other rules of the science of photography apply.

The closer the action, the faster the shutter speed to capture it. The higher the ISO, the greater the noise. The less the light, the slower the shutter, the bigger the f/stop, and the higher the ISO to capture the shot. No one here can tell you what settings to use. They depend upon lens, lighting, distance and movement. You have to figure these out when shooting.

Another problem occurs if shooting in the afternoon. The sun sets earlier creating a lot of shadows and high contrast on sunny days. Find a spot with the sun to your back. Walk up and down the sideline to capture your action. Look for interesting sideline shots too. Set your autofocus to follow the action (AI-servo on Canon) and the capture rate to high speed. Follow the action with your finger on the shutter release. You do not have time to anticipate the best shot so shoot the whole sequence. "Film" is cheap and you can pitch the wasted ones later.

This all deals with the science of photography. Master this so you can concentrate on the art of photography. Good luck and post some pictures.

Can you add text in LR5. If not how can I add text to a photo.
I just took photos of my 50th reunion and want to add captions.
Thanks

Funny coincidence. My 50th high school reunion was last weekend and I had the same challenge with text. After some experimenting, I found the easiest thing to do was import in PSE without any adjustments or keywords in LR.

I wanted to add the names of classmates but quickly found out that I had to switch between black and white text depending upon where the names went. Also, I had to adjust the type size. IMPORTANT: save the files as PSD's in case you have to reedit or change a name. Export right from PSE.

PSE 11 has a nice auto-adjust tool that handle most basic edits. I did not have the time to do much more editing. One closed-eyes person had to be changed to bright-broad-smile. Despite all this, my class of about 90 still required hours to do.

Add the names in PSE and they appear in LR. A lot of work but satisfying in the end.

Unfortunately, Adobe is cloudy about future pricing and this cloud creates a problem. One version of the offer says "all for US$9.99/month for as long as you continue your membership†. " but in the grayed out renewal footnote, it says "After the first 12 months, we will automatically renew your contract based on the current price of the offering."

Adobe, which is it? If they cut out downloads and that could happen the way things are going to the cloud, then they really hold you captive.

Even at only $9.99 monthly, I am still not convinced this is the way to go for me.

According to the email ad I received last month, as long as you don't let it lapse, the $9.99 price is FOREVER.
BUT, this offer expires December 31st.

Could post the email or send it to me? I did not get it and would like to see it.

A justified concern. Mine too. I guess that once they get us to the cloud, they can jack up the price.

120 was the world standard. Kodak altered the spool hole and renamed it 620. That way, if you had a Kodak camera, you had to use their film. The only difference. Likewise, for a few other sizes.
