I couldn't agree with you more. It seems as though Sony thinks we all have lap tops to lug around. As far as paying $85.00 for a print of their PDF, it looks like Sony is doing what Disney Land is doing: "if you need it, you will pay big for it"! (IT costs $100.00 to get into Dingey Land today).
I would try the 18-70 MM lens. It covers everything from 18 MM all the way up to your starting point of your 70-200 MM. Just make sure it has ED glass in it. :D
I have the new 80-400 MM lens. I love it. If you have a camera which has a DX element rather than an FX element, you will end up with a 600 MM photo. (crop factor of around 1.5 X) This lens is heavy, so invest in a tripod or monopod. Also "Quick release plates" to attach and release the lens from your 'pod. Auto focus is quick, photos are sharper too. Enjoy your new lens.
I have Nikon's latest and greatest HDSLR, The D4 S. But for the price that this camera costs (an arm and a leg), one would think Nikon would engineer a rear monitor safety plate. Third party companies have thin glass plates that adhere to the rear monitor via static electricity, or heaven forbid, the use of a sticky substance on a Mylar sheet for touch screens.
I'm sorry, but this is not a smart phone with a touch screen. For around $6500.00, you would think that the brains at Nikon could come up with something better. I love Nikon products, but this really bites my buns that their thinking didn't go far enough.
