I was playing around still trying to learn the controls on the camera so I mounted the flash on it, set the timer and walked over and sat down in front of the lens and waited sure enough the flash winked at me then went off. I figured it would be out of focus. i increased the exposure and fiddled with WB in Light Room but I was impressed by what the camera did all by itself.
Shot at 105mm F4 TTL flash bounced of ceiling at about 8 ft.

Thanks for your input everybody. Being a noob at this and also being afflicted with gadgetitis. My camera bag has grown from very small to a backpack that I dont want to have to carry too long. New topic what do most of you carry with you on a photo outting?

I have one for all sizes of lenses I have. I like these better than the hard hoods that come with some of my lenses, also some lenses do not come with a hood. When fold back when left on the lens will function as a soft rest for the lens when you set your camera down on a hard surfce. I do not rely on hoods for protection (as some will claim about the hard hoods) so these soft ones work well. One word of caution would be to watch for vignetting when these soft hoods are added to the end of a few filters. That is not enough to not use them.

Thats what i'm thinking fit in bag better and still serve the purpose

Is anybody using the foldable rubber lens hoods. They look interesting not only for shooting aquariums but fitting in camera bag. Looks like they might take less space and stay on the lens, also very cheap. Any comments or suguestions?

Dave I also live right down the road from you. It's just too bad that we just have mostly red clay lumps we call mountains. I think your shots were well done.

Now if I could just figure a way to get to LA for the course. I am sure the Yosemite Forest is a lot more photogenic and the weather a little kinder than it is here. Thanks to a the UHH members for coming to my aid. I think I am able to grasp the concept now. The illustrations and web sites were very helpful.

Lucky you! I found an article in LA Times Sunday 1/8/2012 which was about the great classes you can take in Yosemite, CA National Forrest. Some are free & some for a fee & they all sound great.
Anyhow, your looking for "Hstogram information" the gentleman sharing his experience actually added a link which teaches the histogram. Well here goes & I hope it helps. It's a long one too!
Www.ehow.com/how_4523400_use-histogram-photography.html this is better know as the "ehow website" I've never heard of but do look forward to checking it all out.

Walking around with the 24-104F4L all day wears me out. I like the nifty 50mm. I only have the plastic F1.8 but am going to win the lottery and buy the F1.2.

Thank you all very much the sites were very helpful. As my grand daughter would say "UHH Rocks". I will overcome my fear of this beast and start posting some shots for some more advice. Thanks all.

I am a newbie on the site and have been just lurking and learning from this great site. I would like to learn to use the histogram feature on my canon. I have bought a field guide for it and it does not cover it. Is there a book or site you could recommend. Just trying to figure the controls on it(Canon 5D MK2) are almost to much for my old head.
