My response has four (4) question marks (?) to the OP attempting to clarify their post. I'm not mind reading anything ... You've taken their post at face value. We await for confirmation and / or clarification. But, in the meantime, you've attempted to school me on what specifically the OP meant. With that superpower, again, what are you doing here in the mud with us bugs?

This is what the op is referring to as well as the function it serves.

"Focusing Screen"?

Do you mean the mirror inside the camera body? Do you mean the viewfinder eyepiece on the back of the camera?

When I search focusing screen in the EOS 5DII manual, that tool is an electronic menu setting, not something physical. From your description it sounds like the mirror inside the camera, something I've never experienced, but a problem I think the original 5D had. If this is the problem, maybe your EOS 5DII is reaching end of life?

The mirror was still in place however as I said in my other comment I switched to my backup this was because I shoot live events and don't have the leisure to stop and tell the children that they have to wait to see Santa Claus because his camera is messing up.
I have to admit that I have been like others in the forum under the mistaken impression that your knowledge of Canon cameras went beyond just the users manual.
Thank you for enlightening us all.

As said in the Q&A for this product listing on B&H: There is no need for it, 5D Mark ii's view finder has an option for grids.

Moreover, I don't see our OP switching to their back-up camera in a panic because an additional part was about to fall off ...

Actually I did switch to my backup because without the screen while it would still focus I couldn't see that it was in focus without using just the LCD screen as the viewfinder.
I did put it back in place after the event however since it has not happened before and in fact was likely caused by me bumping the lens against the release lever while switching lenses after attempting to photograph the lunar eclipse last week. I got in a hurry because it was freezing outside and I was in just my bedclothes (skivvies).

Can't clean it and re-insert?

I did what I could as far as reinstating it however it is also very easy to scratch it which appears to have happened bumping it when it dropped down and out.
It's not an expensive piece so replacement is not the worst thing to do.
I was mainly asking if it has happened to anyone else or was it just a day where Murphy wanted to remind me of that law.

Has this happened to anyone else?
I was changing my lens just prior to shooting an event and when I removed the lens I had attached to the camera I found that the focusing screen on my 5D mark ii had somehow dropped down and slipped out of its bracket.
It was the first time anything like this happened to me and I almost panicked.
I removed the dangling screen and switched to my backup camera for the event.
I have ordered a replacement due to getting the oils from my fingers on the original one while removing it from the camera body.

We have had problems with so called lost packages. One seemed to rotate between several post offices for more than a week. I called mine and they said it had never been there even though the tracking records I got said it had. Amazon then declared it lost, send another, then the first showed up. Cheap item so Amazon said keep both. I assume maybe a semi-damaged bar code?

This is a common thing with not just Amazon but any higher volume shipper.
What happens often is that the bar code is scanned and assigned to a larger tote or a pallet but it ends up tossed into a different one.
Your tote or pallet goes to the destination receiving center and they offload the contents and immediately reload it for the next location.
The computer system still thinks your items are still in or on the container since it was not scanned into the destination center.
I use to work at a warehouse so I am somewhat familiar with how it happens so often.

I've had my phone add items while in my pocket so it's possible that you like me were bumping against the action button and it added a random thing or the microphone misheard you and added due to voice.

Supposedly on 1/1/2022, the 3G network will change to 5G. Some cell phones will work but will not use any of the 5G network features, whatever they are. Best to check with your cell phone provider to see what, if any, this change will affect you.

I think the changeover is decided by the individual carrier and not an overall change.

President Joe Biden keeps telling lies.

He just told a New Hampshire crowd of “having had a house burn down with my wife in it — she got out safely, God willing.” In fact, the Associated Press reports, it was a minor kitchen fire, with no damage visible from outside

Nor can he stop talking about a chat with an Amtrak conductor in his seventh year as vice president, when the guy retired 15 years before Biden became veep and had died by the year of the tale.

Biden claims he was offered a job by an Idaho lumber company; they have no record.

He claims he “used to drive” an 18-wheeler — it didn’t happen.

He’s said he visited Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life synagogue after the 2018 massacre, speaking to the rabbi, when the synagogue says he’s never even been there.

And you can't forget about the time he had to fight off Corn Pop.

I've never gotten anything delivered via FedEx in any type of foam packing other than the peanuts.
