If you can make it out to Winsor Castle for the "Changing of the Guard", you will have a much more up close photo op than you might get at Buckingham Palace. We went with a bus tour whose guide skillfully positioned us at several vantage points that made for great shooting.

Great shots! What kind of equipment did you use? Camera/Lens?

You might try the Soulard Market, just south of the city. It opened in 1779 and is an interesting architectural structure designed after a hospital in Milan. There is the oldest Lutheran church west of the Mississippi located a few blocks from the market. In fact, Soulard is the oldest neighborhood in St. Louis founded by Madame Soulard, an early French settler. The area is known for good restaurants and bars. For a good shot of the arch, I recommend taking it from the East St. Louis side. There is a light rail station near the Casino parking lot that is raised about two or three stories and affords and unubstructed view of downtown St. Louis.

I have a Canon XTi and a T2i. I sometimes mount a Sigma 10-20mm on one and a Sigma 18-250mm on the other. That covers most photo situations you run across. I have been very satisfied with the quality of Sigma lenses. Excellent construction at a good price.

Scott Kelby's 4 volume series on digital photography is excellent. The original book is the best of all for someone new to photography. Volumes 2, 3, and 4 are a bit more advanced. All have lots of information about equipment, how to take various shots, and suggestions regarding resources that will help improve your photos.

Nice shot. I am a sucker for covered bridges. Have you tried them in a HDR format? Old bridges really lend themselves to that method.

One of the reasons I have so many SD cards is that I did not routinely check that I had both a primary and a backup SD card before I left the house with my camera. After you leave the house with no media card in the camera about the third time, you finally catch on.

I had an issue with PayPal that was not related to ebay. They were unresponsive when I complained about an obvious fraudulent sale paid for through their service. They gave me the "nothing we can do" response. After I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB), they reopened my case. Go to the BBB website and re-state your case. They are very helpful.

I also have the Canon XTi. It is an excellent camera. When I upgraded to the T2i, I kept the XTi and use it as a backup and/or with another lens. Many times, I will set up the T2i with either my Canon 28-70mm or Sigma 18-250mm lens and the XTi with a Sigma 10-20mm. Saves need to swap lenses if and when I need wide angle glass for a particular situation. Face it! You won't get a lot in trade or resale for the XTi so why not keep it. It is still a great camera.

Question: I am fairly new to UHH and this was my first photo gallery posting. After I posted, I checked next few days on UHH and didn't see it. Then I went to "My Topics" and found yours and several others comments. If I didn't see it on UHH, how did you and others see? Did I just miss it somehow?

I think the Scott Kelby's "The Digital Photography Book" 4 volume series is excellent, however, volume 1 would be the best for someone just starting out. No need for the entire series all at once. Volume 1 contains lots of good info about digital photography techniques, equipment, and other resources where information is available.

It is on Mountain Brook Parkway just east of Brookwood Mall and Highway 280. There is a historical marker nearby that gives some history of the place.
