Taking the color out emphasizes the emotion on the lady's face. When I look at the color one, I'm drawn to the color instead of to her face.

I carried a pro set-up with tripod into Carlsbad just a couple of months ago and no one said a thing. In fact, they were quite helpful! Visitors were pretty nice about my setting up on the path and doing time exposures.

I shot in AV mode and most exposures were 10-20 seconds except in the darkest parts. Their lights really do the work for you.

The ball head carries the Manfrotto brand, and when I registered it with Manfrotto, they recognized it as theirs. It has a number and serial number, I just can't find them.

Bought them while they were on a special deal. Without the special and the trade-in, it would have been double that.

Yes, they're both Manfrotto.

It's the ball head that's broken. I don't remember the model number, and there isn't one on it. My camera store had record of the purchase, so they knew which one it was. They're the local "fix-it" guys in this area and are pretty good.

Well, first one of the little bubble levels apparently came out. Since I don't use them much, it didn't seem to matter. But apparently it held in the mechanism for the quick release lever that allows you to turn the plate-locking lever.

I've used the tripod without this, it's just now I don't trust the plate-locking lever.

Manfrotto says they don't have the parts.

It's the neatest wedding picture I've seen.

To those of you who have this and use it - is it hot? I'm in sunny Arizona and I sweat even under my camera strap!

OK, just venting here, mostly. A couple of years ago I finally broke down and purchased a "real" tripod - Manfrotto carbon fiber with ball head. The combined purchase value was over $400. It replaced a Wal-mart cheapy I had used for about 20-25 years. After 2 years the expensive tripod is broken and neither Manfrotto nor the store where I purchased it seem to care that my nearly brand new, expensive tripod didn't stand the test of time.

Guess it's back to the old $40 tripod that has lasted so well. It's just that I've gotten accustomed to that carbon fiber weight and the ball head..... Oh well.

I love it! Wonder who thought of it - them or the photographer?

I looked at the past threads, and yes there are some good ideas there. Answering the question as to what I want to see - basically what's there. I've always heard how beautiful it is. I like old buildings, lighthouses, craggy shorelines, beaches, boulders, even just clouds in the sky! I haven't decided yet whether to go in August or September. Any advice as to best weather? (I really hate rain - being a desert rat!)

Hello, all. I'm planning to drive to Port Angeles, WA to visit friends, then come down Highway 101 through Washington and Oregon. Looking at the map it appears there are literally hundreds of places I'll want to photograph. If you have experience in that area, I'd like to know the "do not miss" ones and the ones that if I miss them, it won't matter so much.

Thanks in advance!
