I just saw an add from Sams Club for the D34000 with bag and 2 lenses for $499.00 for this Friday. Should you be looking for the D3400, this is a really good price.

Thanks McVeed, you are correct, there is a wealth of knowledge in that link. I have only been on the site for a couple of months so I did not see that information before and did not cross my mind to search. Guess I learned a couple of things. Thanks again.

Most of my photography experience has been indoors, church groups, business presentations etc. Many years back I carried my camera in a vehicle while working in the middle of a winter storm while I was a telephone technician and remembered going into a warm building to take a photo and the camera lenses fogged over with condensation which prevented me taking the photos. All the photos I took of outside damage using the cold camera turned out fine and I had no damage from the condensation but from that time on, carried a cheep point and shoot. I use a Nikon 7100 now and wonder if there is any temperature restrictions I should consider as I shoot outside now. I am retired now and want to take some outside photos and don't want to stress new technology in the process.

I agree the pop up flash is too weak for the distance and will be a battery drain anyway. If access to this site is available ahead of time, I would suggest taking a friend along and taking a number of photos of the friend and track your varied settings then plan to use the settings that produce the best results. This exercise will open your eyes to this type shooting and help you with this and other things down the road.

Truly outstanding shot, I especially like the reflections. The only thing missing is a fishing pole!

I have never seen tape used to keep the seat down but I did see a bathroom with a large poster on the wall behind the unit that read "we aim to keep this place clean, your aim will help"

I don't use it anymore but back in 1967/68 stationed in Oakiana my roommate who took photos and sold them to magazines introduced me to an Asahi Pentex and that was my first camera. We could develop color slide film for about 35 cents a roll in the base hobby shop and it soon became a hobby to last a lifetime. I still have it in storage with a couple of lenses but it was totally manual and I went the way of technology. But I miss those days!

Really great shots. It is hard to catch the colors in just the right stage but this is about as good as it gets. I visit the site and have never seen looking this good!

Good for you, honesty does pay! I use Lowes often and they are a great store. One of the few that always gives a 10% discount for vets.

I have always used the neck strap but plan to do some walking trips soon and was thinking of purchasing one of the binocular carry straps that hunters use. You put both arms through it and it holds the binocular on your chest and distributes all the weight across both shoulders. Has anyone ever given these a try?

I have a Nikon 7100 and for 3 years never thought about video but had a need for video come up and while I was about to purchase a video camera my friend suggested trying the 7100. It really worked well. I did not set it up for auto focus and that was a little problem and it will only take about 19 minutes at a time so I had to purchase software to put the clips together but all and all, I saved a few hundred dollars and got great shots. I have purchased an external mike for a future event but for normal shooting it is not needed. I would still consider a stand alone video camera if I had children or something that would require lots of video but for the odd events, it does a great job.
