You know I was putting the card in and out hoping maybe something would work and discovered I can close the door even without the card snapped in (the pressure of the door holds the card in place) and it all works. Interesting. Although I am tempted to do that I know that it needs to be fixed properly at some point- and there is no convenient time- might as well be now. Also the door is not meant to hold the card in and that added pressure might spring the door latch. Thanks for your concern. I have been lucky for a long time re camera repairs/mishaps so really have no complaints.

Glad to hear you got it working. I would go through withdrawals without mine

It was a cloudy and rainy day when I took these two photos of this bird.

800mm photo. Hand held. 25-35 feet.

Photo #1: Canon 5Dsr - Canon 400 II DO f4 - Canon 2.0x III - f/8 - ISO @ 800.
Photo #2: Canon 5Dsr - Canon 400 II DO f4 - Canon 2.0x III - f/8 - ISO @ 800.

Very well done, the capture is perfect

I don't mind the fence in #2 because with the brick and other man-made stuff, it's obviously in an urban environment. The ferns and plants climbing the chain link fence make a nice setting.

For #1, depending on if you are planning to print and the size you want, I recommend cropping a bit from the left side to move the bird out of center. Just personal opinion re the composition - more pleasing IMO. It's a very engaging shot with the perch being the rough metal structure.

Pretty darned nice for auto!

I have been trying all winter to photograph short-eared owls in good light near where I live. Finally last night, I had my best opportunity.

Excellent shots, it was worth the wait

Last week I started a thread on this subject trying to get views on which lens is best (referring to MM) if you only carried one prime lens for landscape. I have some ultra wide and some zooms, but was thinking of investing in one really good wide lens for landscape and night sky shots. I received a lot of good input about zooms, and ultra wides, but we never got to the point of my question (which maybe I did not make clear enough). I have been shooting Nikon for 10 years since I retired, and last year started shooting Sony A7 series due to a bad injury and transport issues. My strategy is to get a lens for Nikon D810 and to also use it with adapter on the A7.

I have the Zeiss Distaton T 15mm, but in a lot of cases it is so wide it is difficult to compose and expose properly. I am thinking a 28mm would be a good solution. Zeiss has the Classic Distagon, Milvus and Otus lines for Nikon. (I have some of the Batis and Loxia lenses for my Sony A7 in E format.) My question would be if anyone thinks the Mil's and/or Otus lines are worth the cost. I have read that some of these lenses have Coma issues.

I have read a lot of reviews but a lot of the tech analysis is beyond my ability. Since I started as a beginner, and acquired a lot of equipment slowly over the years, and kept improving quality, I now wish I had just bought the best from the beginning. I am planning to start selling all my "b" quality stuff and to only keep the stuff that is really good. For reference, yes, I am an amateur, but good enough to have been published quite a few times. Not making any money.

Thanks, I once heard two men discussing the physics of how the Cholla cactus jump. Pretty amusing. Barely brush one and it seems like they jumped. Tough to get off

I might be cheap but is there an option to Photoshop?

I just want to paint a portrait background black and it feels kind of stupid to buy a PS subscription, or a complete license, for that one task only.

I use Affinity. It is a match for Photoshop and only 49.95

We went to the national monument in Tucson at Sunset and highlighted our most majestic of Cacti, the Saguaro. We also caught backlit Cholla (they look like teddy bears). They have the reputation of being "Jumping Cholla." if you just brush one, you will have many cacti segment to deal with.

We tried to catch the life and death of the grand cacti
