Gimp is older than and has been the model for ps for Adobe for years.

I'm not sure about this. Photoshop is about 10 years older than GIMP if you look at when they were both started (1987 vs 1995). I remember when GIMP came out in the 90's and it was always dubbed as an open-source photo manipulation tool like Photoshop. I think the "like Photoshop" was used just because PS was the standard then.

Either way, both have evolved a lot to the current day. Both share a lot of similarities from layers, to paths and how you work with images. The UIs are different and both have a lot of on-line tutorials. GIMP can be set up to work with Lightroom. I think Lightroom to Photoshop is a better and easier integration. I think some of the PS selection features are easier than GIMP's. I think some of PS's advanced fill features are better too. Will everyone use them? I know I will never user all the features of either.

Like all tools, think about what you want to do in order to find the right one. Both have learning curves and you will need to invest some time to get them. If you use one and try the other, you will say it is harder. If you are a stats person, you won't like the bit depth limitations and lack of RAW converter in GIMP; neither are deal breakers for most of us.

Was fun to watch ETNZ win the America's Cup (name of cup not related to country who possess it).

I thought the racing was very good. Much better than some of those odd races we saw after the law suits in the past.

What ever design they choose, I know the venue will be great for photographers.

Histogram is a count of pixels in the shot, so you can only see it after. Before, you need to use the light meter which will tell you under/over and you have the choice of spot, small area and whole frame sampling. The histogram is helpful when your scene is off naturally left or right.

Great place to start. There are a lot of ways to do things in LR and lots of people can show many different ones. These are very well done and he has a lot of short one where can learn a little at a time.

Get ready for a stupid "newbie" question:

What is a battery grip and why would I want one?

In addition to what others have said, the grip is nicer to hold with bigger hands. Without it, my bottom two fingers kind or roll under the camera body, but with the grip, it is much more comfortable. Particularly more comfortable when shooting vertical.

Good low light doesn't mean no noise, it just handles it better. It may also mean you need to add some of your own noise correction. Shooting in RAW and then touching up in a post processing tool (I use Lightroom and there are lot of tutorials for it) gives good results.

Compare what you shot to a phone's camera and you may just end up being happy with what you were getting.

The best would be the Nikon Brand, and they are the most expensive. Check on an aftermarket Brand, Vello. They are known for inexpensive, good, camera accessories. Sold by B&H Photo.

I've got the Velo purchased from B&H. Very happy with it. BB focus worked with it as soon as I put it on.
I don't know if it reports battery charge perfectly, it said 30% last weekend and things got slow so I pulled the grip batter and things went to normal (batter info said I had close to 1,800 shots on that battery). I was doing an ice hockey tournament, so temperature could have been a factor. Either way, it is still comfortable and works well.

Actually a really good shot. Both interesting and technically nice (low light, cool colors).

Some great shots of one of my favorite places on earth.

As for Alex, I saw another post that showed how he passed other parties and even woke up a camera man who was sleeping. He has done some amazing things, but just thinking about that makes my palms sweat.

I've got decent lenses of both, as others have said. They can be a good value, or they may be a "bad copy". I just upgraded my Sigma 70-200 with a Nikon 70-200 I found locally used for a good price. The Nikon is noticeably better, but I got a lot of great shots with the Sigma.

So I got my new external drive formatted it in ExFAT now the question is I want to copy my photo's files and lightroom catalog to the external hard drive how or what is the best way to do that?

The blanket recommendation is to do that from LR. But, you can't move an open catalog that I know of.

I would:
1) Make a backup of everything (preferable on a separate external drive)
2) Create some folders on the new drive. lr-catalog and images for example.
3) Copy the lrcat file to the new drive into the folder
4) Open LR by double clicking the lrcat file on the external drive.
5) In the "folders" panel of the Library module, click the "+" - Add Folder. Chose the external drive and the new folder you created on it for your images.
6) Drag and drop the files from within LR to the new folder.

If you move them outside of LR, it will freak out that they are missing. There is a "find" dialog you can use, but this would be easier.

Now, I'd say wait for others to confirm this. And remember your backsups.

Yes, it is expensive. I tried two cheaper models before - that made it more expensive.

I'm a big fan of this one: https://spiderholster.com/handstrap

I use it on a D7200 with a grip and commonly with a 70-200. I attach it with a blackrapid arca-swiss plate, so it goes onto my ball mount easily if needed.
