Tamron or Sigma 70-200 2.8? I have an Sigma 18-35 1.8 which I really like and was all set to purchase their 70-200. I'm reading more and more about that particular Sigma lense front or back focusing, yet others are very pleased. Haven't seen very many complaints on the Tamron. Any thoughts or experience please..!!! Thanks in advance.
Sigma makes some excellent lenses. I own just one of them, and am satisfied with it based on what I paid for it. Tamron has introduced the G2 Series of lenses in both the 150-600mm and the 70-200mm f2.8. And soon to be Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 G2. The Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 G2 is an affordable lens is this focal range, as compared to Canon or Nikon's f2.8. The Tamron lens is one I aspire to own, hopefully by the end of this year. Reviews have been good, and it comes with a 6 year warranty too.

I had the Tamron, and did not like it. Was much happier with the Sigma.
I have the Sigma 70-200 mm F2.8 EX DG Macro HSM II and am extremely happy with it. I shoot mostly nature so I use it with a tripod 95% of the time. It is a little heavy for hand held but if you brace yourself and the lens well, you can get sharp images.
Funny you should mention that lens. I looked at KEH and found one listed as being in excellent condition. Turns out I was the first buyer! It had never been sold. I paid $688 for it, quite a bit less than a new 70-200mm.

IMHO, Stick with the brand and you will notice less problems than with third party glass.
I broke down and bought the nikon model after reading about problems with the other lens with focus points. The nikon weighs a ton but is just amazingly sharp. It is expensive but worked perfectly right out of the box.
I've got decent lenses of both, as others have said. They can be a good value, or they may be a "bad copy". I just upgraded my Sigma 70-200 with a Nikon 70-200 I found locally used for a good price. The Nikon is noticeably better, but I got a lot of great shots with the Sigma.

Either. Both are great.
Some lenses front or back focus on DSLRs. It isn't necessarily a lens problem. It is often a DSLR camera problem. If you want to avoid the possibility of front or back focus, buy a mirrorless camera.
I have a Sigma 24-70 f2.8 my favorite walk around lens. Use a Tamron 70-200 f2.8 USM VB also. Use the Tamron for sports shots. I love both of them equally. Both Sigma and Tamron are great glass, pleased with both. Think you would be happy with either brand...
