Maybe I forgot to mention that I coached high school football go 17 years and high school wrestling for 25 years. As a head wrestling coach we had a study table every day before practice with tutors. My wrestling teams had more kids in the National Honor Society than any other group. I am proud of my kids. VERY PROUD.

Just a couple points: football put me through college. It taught me perseverance, gave me good work ethic and forced me to be accountable to others. Most high schools (if not all high schools) have academic standards that must be met in order to play. All schools that I have been around have training rules such as no smoking, no alcohol, no drugs and no illegal activities. Do they have those have the same standards at the pool hall or the local Quick Mart corner hangout? A high schooler is going to do something. Would you prefer your son spent his time on a football field or on a street corner? If you think that a professional football player works only 5 months a year, you are a fool. It takes a 12 month commitment. When I graduated from college, I read a study that said the average life span of a running back in the NFL (not playing life but real life) was 52 years.

I had a custom built frame from mountain view, ca that facilitated a 400 cz motor and 17" fox shocks (first cantalievered long travel rear shocks) but the front suspension didn't have as much travel and was a bit disconcerting.

I have never talked with anyone who had a whole new frame except DeCoster and Robert when they were riding the titanium framed Suzukis. I didn't speak their language so it was difficult. How did yours handle? Did it handle like a CZ?

By the way, my Maicos had a full floating rear brake. It made a big difference. I also turned my rear koni shocks upside down. That also made a big difference especially in the washboards. Small air gap on the top. When turned upside down, the air gap was gone due to gravity of fluid.

I raced a 501 in AMA and sleeved it down to 490 for FIM.

Your mention of Full Bore boots makes me remember the time I crashed my CZ and broke my leg in 6 places between the knee and ankle.

The surgeon said if I had not been wearing those boots I would have lost my leg.
As it was 18 months in a cast and I was back racing again.

That was in 1971 the bikes back then did not have the sophisticated suspension that that they have now.

You probably remember Roger DeCoster, Adolph Weil, the Jones brothers, Joel Robert, Brad Lacky, Torsten Holman leathers and Koni shocks. I even remember when Jerry Studolka showed up in the Inter Am series wearing a hockey mask.

On a lighter note, I heard that this whole drone look in your window or at your daughter sun bathing thing was first done by that famous man from China: Peking Tom.

When I was racing, we used leathers, gloves, chest protectors, and Full Bore boots. I had a friend named Jack Pfaff, who was national hare scramble champion. I visited him one time while he was recuperating from a broken jaw after hitting a tree. He told me that if he were wearing a full face helmet, he wouldn't have broken his jaw. I went straight out and got a Bell full face helmet. All the guys on the national circuit made fun of me. Within a year almost all of them had full face helmets.
In those days, you couldn't race in the hospital and no race means no money!

When I was young, I had an AMA Pro card. For two years, I traveled all over the USA racing motocross. My family thought I was nuts, but those guys who race on hard surfaces are really crazy. There is s big difference in falling on a dirt track at 60 MPH and falling on blacktop at at 180 MPH.

I have another Blake Shelton story. One day Blake call George to the house and told him he was going to be out of town for about a week. He said he was going to Las Vegas because he had to do a couple shows at the National Finals Rodeo. He told George to keep on working on the pond he was building and he would see him when he got home. George told him that's a fine how do you do you go often have fun and I have to work. Blake just laughed. When he got back home he gave George a really nice NFR belt buckle.
