You know, I can't tell you how many times I have had people come up to me and say any of the following:

"Boy, that's a nice camera, I bet it takes good pictures"

"Is that all you do all day, going around shooting photos?"

"Man, you get to travel all around, huh?"

And my favorite... "What TV station do you work for?"

The reality though is that photojournalism is hard work with long hours and now very low pay. I have lived in my car for weeks, been shot at, cussed at, threatened, praised and ignored. It is a true mixed bag of experiences, but the great part is that you get to see and do cool stuff, too. I have met Presidents, pro sports figures, politicians and people who were both famous and infamous. I have slept with homeless people under bridges and been to world-wide sporting events. SO, is it worth the long hours, hard work, enormous amounts of crap you have to put up with? Absolutely. This photo is a good example of some of the places you have to stay in. This was shot in Ulysses, Kansas in the ONLY hotel in town, which was at a truck stop. Sometimes, ya gotta stay where you gotta stay! :-)

Wow, that's a good photo. You must have a great camera.

Thank you for reaching out and saving this little creature. I can see where she would be a bundle of joy and perhaps a little spoiled. But given what she has gone through, she deserves to be a bit spoiled. You did a good thing.

If a card act's up like that, get rid of it, don't even try to find out what's wrong with it. If there's nothing on the card you need to retrieve, just throw it away and get another one.

Why would you believe that the anomoly is with the card and not with Windows? I get this message often with storage devices other than SD cards.

I've traveled in Europe extensively. I would definitely take the 18-135mm but I would also take the 10-18mm as well. It's small, lightweight and you will use it a lot for photographing interiors.

after months of researching i finally purchased a refurbished canon T7i. having not had a slr for a long time, i am shooting in automatic. my problem is, sitting on my patio taking the exact same picture with the new camera and my sony bridge camera, i find the quality of the bridge camera to be much better. it's not that i'm screwing up the settings because its in auto. i am frustrated!! also while shooting with the flash, when holding shutter half way down there is a crackling hissing sound. i dont think i heard it the first day i was using it. it worries me because the sound is kind of like something shorting out. any thoughts???? try not to be overly sardonic, sarcastic, demeaning etc.

Those crackling sounds are preflashes and are normal. Here is an explanation I found on DPreview.

"Question: I've noticed when using the built-in flash when I press the button halfway to focus the flash sputters numerous times - sounds like a sparkler going off and at the same time the flash emits light for each crackle of sound. What is the camera doing at this point? I've haven't come across anything in the manual yet that mentions this.

Answer: Those are preflashes to aid the camera with autofocus in low light. Its to illuminate the scene a bit so that AF sensor can pick up an area of contrast. If you look again in the manual with this information, you will find it there."

This issue, like many others, like Win10, are a complete dogs breakfast. Why, when they have a popular programme, do they have to stuff it up. They show their arrogance in thinking they update, when in practice, they completely wreck what was a popular programme.
Is it a commercial ploy to encourage sales?? Not in my case, & I dare say, many others, it drives me to give it away.
Picasa is great for the less technically minded, it does things other programmes don't do, unless you're a rocket scientist.
If they don't want to update their programmes, then make it still available to those who love it.
It makes me mad!!!

I don't understand. Picassa is still available for download. It's just not being supported anymore but the download is available and usable.

Granted...the picture quality of a Panasonic FZ series bridge camera is arguably as good if not better than a entry level DSLR also they can cost as much if not more than a entry level DSLR. I should have been more specific in my reply. But I think you would have to agree, most entry level DSLR's are better performing than the Canon SX and Nikon P series bridge cameras.

I do agree.

It's always a good move to go from a bridge camera to a DSLR, you might not have the powerful zoom but the picture quality from a DSLR is head and shoulders above the bridge camera. Good luck.

I think that "always" is a bit strong of a statement. In many respects, the Panasonic Lumix FZ-1000 and FZ-2500 can rival the performance of a DSLR while retaining the flexibility and convenience of a bridge camera. The image quality is amazing.

Lots of good suggestions here including Blue Ridge and waterfalls in the area should be fabulous with all of the rain. You should know, however, there is no photography allowed inside the Biltmore Estate Building-exterior & grounds are fine. Another location often overlooked is the Grove Park Inn, a 1920's era hotel with fabulous vistas of the area and magnificent architecture including probably the nations' largest collection of Craftsman furniture from it's heyday. Lunch on their veranda is a wonderful experience albeit pricey.

I know that the signage states that photography inside the Biltmore Estate is not allowed. However, when I was there, guests were using phones and iPads to take photos inside in clear view of the docents without being hassled.

That rule applies to lenses without image stabilization. Both of the OP's lenses have IS so he can shoot at much lower speeds and that varies from person to person depending on how steady your hands are.

Nobody seems to have mentioned the usual rule of thumb, which is 1/focal length for the minimum shutter speed for hand-held. So a focal length of 150mm requires a minimum shutter speed of 1/150 sec.

If you don't fancy a tripod, maybe an extendable walking stick with a tripod head type of screw fitting for attaching the camera to.

I just installed Picassa 3 on my laptop within the last hour and it runs perfectly with no hiccups. I normally run Lightroom and Photoshop but wanted to make sure Picassa 3 would work under Windows 10 for a friend. It's good to go.

The obvious attraction to visit while in Asheville is the Biltmore estate. But consider venturing to CARL SANDBURG's estate at Flat Rock, near Hendersonville. Chimney Rock State Park is also worth some time and of course, there is the Blue Ridge Parkway. You can't miss that one.

That's fine. You accomplished nearly the identical results using what you're comfortable with. Well done.
