I know most, maybe all, here do post-processing, using a variety of applications ranging from open-source (GIMP) to Photoshop CC and everything in between. ......... like to test the waters - is there any interest in adding a section devoted to this?

I agree that this would be a great idea, If for no other reason maybe a place to look for a quick "reference", because it has been awhile since I extracted some hair....or, "how did I do that before"?

Sounds like CanonsÂ’ T3's Flash Exposure Lock function, which fires the flash under manual control before the actual exposure, to determine the proper exposure setting.

First time using the pop up flash and a slave. The camera is the Canon T3 1100D and the slave flash is a TT560 THINKLITE speedlite, off band I believe. When I try to take a photo with the slave and pop up the pop up flashes as you focus. This causes the slave to fire, is there anything I can do to stop this. The slave has settings M, S1 ans S2. Any and all help will be appreciated.

I am currently using Adobe Camera RAW Version 8.1. All of the metadata in Bridge is showing Process Version 6.7. It has been a while since I had that version. The attached shows the RAW version that I am using and the second attachment shows the metadata from an image processed in 8.1. Has anyone had this problem. I'm not sure that it is a big deal, but I would like for the metadata to be correct.

Just ran across this video ... this might be the answer you are looking for...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05YEzK-fvZw

So you might try taking a reading on a couple of shots, after you make your change.

I'm no expert on flash, but I'm finding that with my 580exII (5d MKII), that ETTL is not consistent. So I am having to use manual on the flash to get reliable results.
I have my flash exposure down 2 also. On TTL I use a pre-flash...take a shot...usually the first is way over exposed, but the next is usually fine...very frustrating.

Trialing my new Canon 600ex flash on my Canon 5D Mk11 i used a sekonic light meter to measure expoure. When i change on flash exposure i had no change in exposure over a distance of 2 metres. Even adusting by 2 stops the sekonic light meter read the same exposure. When I manually changed the on flash zoom distance, the light meter reading changed as expected. What the ? Any suggestions why exposure compensation was in effective?

And my wife thinks I'm bad about 'freezing' water fall shots! Great job :)

Welcome! lots of good people on here, and lots of good advice :)
Since you like artistic nature photos...you might consider HDR for beating out the shadows.

Thanks for posting rpavich. I bought a light meter for just this reason..."learning how to finesse the ambient portion of your exposure".
Great article.

I might add--If you don't want the dimensions(or proportions) to change while dragging, I think you hold down the "Shift" key.

Just hit "CMD"+"T"(Probably "Cntr" + "T" on windows PC)...Which is "Free Transform".
Very handy to resize say someone's head on another body.

How do you change the size of a selection in Photoshop? I am trying to move an image from one photo to another but it's too small. I've looked up a couple of books and gone on the internet but still haven't found the answer. One problem is that I'm told to use either GROW or SCALE but when I go to do that, the commands are grayed out. I've tried increasing the size of the image to be transferred but when I move it, it's still no bigger.
Thanks

It was bright out and the sun was not directly behind him but coming from that side....... meter on something brighter than the bird so that I could get enough light on the bird. Is that it? Or was there just no chance without a flash for fill?....

If you metered on something brighter than the bird, I believe it would have made it Darker.
This is my method in a pinch like this...If I even suspect the subject is backlit, I hold the palm of my hand up and try to block the light the same as my subject is...then meter off the bottom of my hand (Manual)....usually gets me there. Of course a grey card would be better..but no time for that! :)

They wanted the pictures to make sure it wasn't a counterfeit.

Makes sense, I thought it might be to see the condition of the card. But they said the numbers on the edge were "Most important".
