I keep a clear filter on when shooting a festival, concert, auto/bike race, offroad shenanigans and the like. Otherwise the filter is in my bag.

FYI, coyote young are called pups, kits are fox.

Yes, your are right. We started calling it a kit when we thought it could be a fox. It was a while ago.

Nice series, but I suggest that, in the future, you follow the rule stated in the intro. to this section:

“Do not hijack topics by posting your pictures inside someone else's topic in a manner that would divert the discussion away from the original poster's pictures. In such situation, it's best to start a new topic and post your pictures there. It is OK to post pictures when explicitly invited by the OP or when posting pictures inside an existing topic would genuinely benefit that particular discussion.”

Point well taken. There is a fine distinction between extending a topic and hijacking the same. Thanks for clarifying that the preference here is to isolate topics rather than embellish them.

Just talked to Nikon. How is this? Zoom ring a bit slow moving, estimate $679.00. Wow!! Anybody in the club that knows of a reputable repair center that I could send the lens to.
Thanks in advance.

Is yours a first gen or second gen 80-400? I have a good working first gen for sale ($400) in the UHH For Sale listings.

Just for giggles, this is a VERY young coyote kit that was abandoned overnight under our coach early this year. We didn't touch it, gave it water, and kept it safe until momma could return for it the next night.

The first image was when we first found it. The other images are later when the kit had some confidence that everything was going to be OK.

The kit had no fear of humans and had obviously never drank from open water. Very charming experience!

Enjoy

Great way to introduce yourself too.
Love the first shot, Avocets, one of the loveliest wading birds. Great capture!
Welcome

Totally forgot about the "Introduce Yourself" post when I first dropped in to UHH a few weeks ago. Better late than never?

I am probably proof that doing something for a long time does not necessarily make for an expert. My first camera came along in the 1950s - a consumer twin-lens Argus that shot 620 film. Then an exchangeable-lens Argus C33, more 35mm rangefinders and SLRs along with the odd twin-lens. Naturally I have a large portfolio of images and awards from that time. . . NOT!!

A Nikon SLR was handed down to me 3-4 decades ago. Never wanting to change lens mounts, I still have a Nikon system. Nikon builds very good tools, but so do half a dozen others. There is more difference between shooters than between camera brands.

I put in 25 years as a computer programmer and data analyst, and 10 years with digital audio recording and mastering, so Post-Processing digital images when they came along made total sense to me. The PP tools we have today are amazing but I still put the emphasis on getting the shot right in the first place.

Recently my DSLR system has evolved to mirrorless. A new Nikon Z7 sports a 24-70 f/4 zoom and 85 1.8 along with adapted F-mount zooms including the 70-200 and 80-400. I like to shoot from a tripod and use a circular polarizer and ND filters as needed.

These images are tacked on here because I like them. Some go back a few years.

Seems like a job for an HDR series.

Some cameras (even phone cameras) have some on-board HDR processing if Post-Processing is not an option.

Color accuracy and dynamic range are the most important features, but the more pixels a monitor has, the more of the image can be viewed at 100%.

A 4K monitor is nominally 4000 x 2250. For comparison, a 12.1MP Nikon D700 is 4256 x 2832 so most, but not all, of the image could be viewed full-screen at 100% on a 4K monitor.

A picture is worth a thousand words, right? This is an example of the second generation Nikon 80-400 adapted to a Sony a6300.

My ink dye prints faded out in 5 -10 years. (Canon)

My pigment prints are going strong after 20. (Epson)

Yes. But I usually make some changes or hit Reset and start over after I see what auto did.

I am an amateur photographer interested in getting into photo processing programs like Topaz. The problem is that I have a 7-year old MacBook Pro (4GB and 500GB HD W/250GB available, running Catalina) that is incredibly slow. I was told by someone at an Apple Store near me, that I should upgrade to 16GB and a 1Tb SSD HD that I could get at Crucial.com for about $90 and $115, and install myself. (The store will not touch any computer that is more than 5 years old.)
Questions:
1. Would the upgrades improve the laptop’s response issues; and,
2. How complicated is it to upgrade the RAM and replace the SSD HD?

Thanks, I appreciate any help.

Check the video in your MacBook. If it doesn't have the premium Radeon video consider a different laptop.

If your 2012 is anything like my 2011, the RAM swap is easy. Just remove the back. Its right there.

I've never had a problem with third-party RAM in the MBP or any other computer.

The available 250gb will hold you for a while. More important to have an external backup drive.
