I very much appreciate all your advice. I have tried locating the file using exactly what you mentioned. Still no luck. But I have no intention of quitting.
I never seem to get the correct terms right, but I do try. I actually did a-b-c, but they show on LR previous import only and have the exclamation mark. I did disconnect and reinserted my external hard drive. Still not found. Only my last 30 imports are missing. I inserted my memory card, copied to external drive, then opened LR and copied the photos into collections. I saw that they were in LR and formatted the card. Mistake and will not happen again until I am sure the photos are where they should be.
I recently changed my organizing in LR from folders to collections. There were a few hiccups, but managed to fix problems and now everything was working until I did a import. I followed Scott Kelby's system and imported to a external drive and into LR> Now LR tells me photos cannot be found. They are not in the external hard drive or any where I looked. Did a Locate but still no luck. All I have are the previews which show up in the Previous import box.
Help
Adobe LR version 7 ( this is where those 325 photos are)
Adobe LRC version 13.0.1 camera raw 16
I will try and be more specific. 6 months or more I had a hard drive crash and my catalog was a mess. Luckily I had all my photos backed up. Last week I decided to stop using folders and set up collections. The move went well. When I went to look at my apps in microsoft, I found an app labeled Lightroom, when I opened it there were 325 folders that were not in my LRC catalog. I understand about where the photos are, and about virtual copies. The photos are in my external backup, I cannot figure out how to copy them over to the correct collections in LRC. Sometimes I get more confused with the answers I get here. I have a Masters in nursing not Lightroom. Isn't there an easy way to copy them over? These photos are from 2016, and I have no idea why the are in LR and not LRC. There is a difference, right?
Sorry accepted, thanks for replying.
So I would need to have my LRC open side by side with the LR and do the move. These are two different catalogs.
LR being the first before I switched to classic.
I found 200+ photos in LR catalog and want to move them into my LRC collections. I looked at many options, but am afraid to make mistake and lose them. I did a backup to my external drive. I was not aware I still had photos on the old LR. Once I get those pics moved should I delete this catalog?
Nice, I really like this. Keep up the good work.
I have been viewing videos by Scott Kelby and like the idea of using collections, just need some clarification on collections and collection sets.

I want to change my import process to collection based. Get confused with setup, first create collection (travel) then collection set(Canada)
Collection
Travel
collection set
Canada
Rome
Paris
etc.
I love your work. Thanks for sharing.
You guys are all great, have read all the reply's. Am awaiting the Epson V600 and will start working.
