The Diamondbacks are in the World Series for the first time since 2001 when they beat the Yankees in 7 games!

My sister-in-law lives in Phoenix with her husband. We're just outside Dallas. Their family was big into baseball as their boys grew up, so this should make for some interesting conversation.

I think it is great that the diamondbacks and rangers were both cellar dwellers a few years ago and now series bound.

They got off to such a phenomenal start, at one point leading the West by something like 3½ games, that it looked like they would be the team to beat. Then in the second half, they seemed to lose all sense of purpose, until surging again to secure the last wild card spot. In the end, it is two wild card teams going for the world championship, and all the vaunted division winners with over 100 games won (except for Minnesota) were eliminated early on.

This should be fun!

It kind of kills the meaning of the regular season, doesn't it? I remember looking at the sports section each day to see where my Tigers stood in the pennant race. For instance, the four game series with the Yankees at the end of 1961 still haunts me. The only good thing about it (being a Tigers fan) was Yogi's fake trow to second drawing the runner off third whom he then picked off.

It was a long, long, road to get to the W.S.

God's speed, Arizona.

I won't go that far, but this year all the big guns were dispatched in very short order, I guess proving once again that ALL professional teams are good and can get hot or cold at any time. I'm just glad that the DBacks got hot (again) exactly when they did. All the division winners were ultimately eliminated, and the two who won when it counted most are right where they want to be.

Diamondbacks are going to the Series only to be knocked off in five games - The Rangers made it in 2010 and lost to the San Francisco Giants. They made it again in 2011 and lost to the St. Louis Cardinals. Maybe the third time is the charm.
